Velcro strap closure. Back pocket is padded and could probably hold a laptop. A nice man's bag.

I did send it back however, just because I didn't like the buckles - which made it too time consuming to open and close. I would have preferred velcro or magnetic snaps under the buckles for easy access.

Everything, from my mini-computer, classroom texts, eBook reader, & PDAs, to my makeup and wallet, spends some portion of time during my daily routine residing in it.
I love the fact that there are so many conveniently placed external pockets to store any accessory I may need. It has proven to be an extremely useful and versatile bag.
