Bear and Son Cutlery |
| A good knife should do two things – perform flawlessly and satisfy that little part of you that’s looking for a reason to take it out. Bear and Son Cutlery follow the tradition established way back in history when Jim Bowie fashioned the knife that opened the wilderness. Bear and Son Cutlery is proud to put their name on dependable knives that outdoorsmen are proud to carry. Skilled artisans craft each knife with care, creating affordable, high quality tools that are strong, durable and ready for the field. Every step of the knife-making process, from dies to heat treatments to grinding and assembly, is performed in the Bear and Son Cutlery factory. Under the watchful eyes of the craftsmen, high carbon hollow-ground stainless steel blades become hunting knives, skinners, guthooks, and lockbacks. Damascus steel blades are worked into stag bone or mother of pearl handles for a beautiful, durable example of knifemaking artistry. When you see the name Bear and Son Cutlery on a knife, you know you're getting quality craftsmanship, field tested durability and value for your money. |

Know what you are getting By John from Riverside, CA on 08/24/2008 Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend As a knife collector, the Bear & Sons knives don't have the best fit and finish, very good, but not top notch. They've always been very solid, like a classic pocket knife, but not like a boutique knife. They are really of the old school; I have a couple and they are all rugged and well made, great for actual use.
As for the comment about the"blades not being sharp" the second blade is a spatula. It should be dull and is used traditionally for mixing medications and sorting pills. It's a good mustard and mayo spreader.
As for the first blade not being sharp, if you know how to put a blade on a knife and have your own theories about blade sharpening, like I do, then I love it. I can put the exact blade on it that I want. The stock Bear & Son's sharp blade tends to be at what I think is a wrong angle for my purposes. It's actually pretty nice to do it myself the way I want it. I think that's a plus. You might not.
Nice looking, but useless By Cathbad from Lowell, MA on 07/26/2008 Pros: Comfortable Grip, Durable, Easy to clean, Lightweight Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: The fundamental problem is that neither blade has an edge. They both are blunt with no indication that anyone tried to sharpen them.
By JP Gunner from Harbor Springs, MI on 04/30/2008 Pros: Comfortable Grip, Durable, Perfect for trout, Perfect in any situation, Sharp Blade Best Uses: Backcountry Camping, Campgrounds, Cutting trout, Day Trips, River Trips, Road Trips, Survival Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Great on my hip, looks even better in my hand.
