It all began one day in 1774 when a German cobbler named Johann Birkenstock registered as "shoemaker" and sparked a family tradition that would come to change the shoe industry forever. One hundred years later, Konrad Birkenstock invented the contoured cork and latex foot bed, the first to follow the natural shape of the foot. Carl Birkenstock added arch support to the footbed a few years later and began shipping them all over Europe for use in factory-made shoes. But it wasn’t until the 1960’s that his son, Karl, made the vision complete and the Birkenstock sandal we know today was born. Birkenstock sandals became wildly popular throughout Europe for their health and comfort benefits, soon spreading to the rest of the world. I was told by a friend that Birkenstocks were the most comfortable shoes. So I bought a pair, and oh my god, they are SOOOO comfortable. I cant stop buying them. I will probobly make Birkenstocks my prefrence on foot wear from now on.

They are a little long in size when barefoot, but fit perfectly with thick socks (e.g., smartwool). The two straps can slightly adjust the width as needed. The leather straps need a little breaking in before wearing barefoot. I ordered the black.
