I thought it looked a bit large, espescially in the area where the side seams join the sleeve. I'm not sure if exchanging it for a medium would work. He has a 42" chest so should wear a large. But he's happy with his choice, the leather and construction are very high quality. I believe this was advertised as a 3 season jacket which is absolutely true, he'll need a sweater or fleece vest if he wants to wear this on very cool fall nights.
