Joan Vass |
| Joan Vass wasn’t always a New York fashion icon. Before her name became synonymous with luxurious, unstructured women’s sweaters, tunics, pants and dresses, John Vass was using her education in philosophy and aesthetics as an assistant curator for the Museum of Modern Art. Joan Vass developed a fascination with textile art, and made it her mission to connect with talented local women and introduce their beautifully crafted hats, scarves and knit clothing to the marketplace. Her efforts resulted in a unique brand of artisan women’s clothing that earned Joan Vass the Smithsonian’s esteemed Extraordinary Woman of Fashion award in 1978. Joan Vass’ label has expanded to meet the demand for her unstructured sweaters, tunics, cardigans and drape front shirts. Known for luxury fabrics and timeless-yet-modern designs, Joan Vass clothing is sought after for classic silhouettes and comfortable luxury.
