Great for weekend traveling By Dawn from Washington on 06/29/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Easy To Load, Good for shorties, Good padding, Highly Adjustable, Large capacity Best Uses: Backpacking, Car Camping, Day trip, Hiking, Weekend traveling Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I got this bag for weekend traveling, air travel carry-on, and overnight backpacking trips. It's got a lot of space, a diversity of pockets, and feels comfortable and light. It's working out great for my 5'0 frame.
By Hiking Mommy from Northern Virginia on 06/26/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Roomy Cons: No accessable pockets, Not adjustable enough Best Uses: Baby carrying, Hiking Describe Yourself: Practical Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I needed a baby carrier backpack to use on day hikes and around town and so far this pack is working out pretty well. I find it a little difficult to get on and off unless I use a bench, but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it. It works great when my husband and I are together, but if I'm alone, I can't get into any of the pockets without taking the pack (and baby) off my back. That means if I'm using it around town, I have to find a way to carry my wallet/phone. I'd like it better if there were at least a pocket or two on the straps/hip belt to hold a cell phone or small wallet.
The baby likes the pack and seems comfortable in it. My only concern on his part is that he'll reach the 30 lb (baby + gear) weight limit too fast!
I didn't think the zip-off diaper bag feature was going to be useful, but I've already used it several times. Images shared by: Hiking MommyHitting the trails Tags: Using Product
A disappointing purchase. By Crikay from Charlotte, NC on 06/25/2009 Pros: Easy to pitch, Easy to strike down, Lightweight, Looks good, Roomy, Sturdy Cons: Leaks badly, Missing item, Poor Fly Design Best Uses: Car Camping, Family camping Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Comfort Driven Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: Judging by the other great reviews this tent has received I think I must have been unlucky and got a bad tent. [...] I then did a test erect in the back garden and caught a good shower that night. I'm glad I was snug in my own bed for the test run because the next morning the tent contained a giant puddle.I also found the rain flaps around the door a bit of a nuisance as they would get caught in the zip unless you really paid attention, and I think the rain fly was a little skimpy. Also, as it's a close out it's impossible to find the matching footprint anymore so be prepared with homemade tarps cut to shape if you are a footprint advocate. On the plus side I think I would have considered swapping it for another Rio Grande 6 if I'd had enough of a time frame to accomplish this before I was due to take the family camping. It was really easy for one person to erect and strike down. Fairly lightweight for a car camping tent and seemed to be a good size for my family of two adults, toddler, baby and dog. The big windows and ventilation seemed great. One star rating from me because really, it's a tent and when it comes down to it the main purpose is to keep you dry and sheltered, and it failed.
