It is not bulky at all, but I can still fit a sweater under the size small. The material is water-resistant and windproof. The only con is that it is very warm for such a light jacket, especially if you are moving and generating heat. I also wouldn't wear it for sports activities where having no possibility of catching the sleeves on something is important. They are deliberately long with Velcro bands around them to cinch them tight around the wrists. The small comes down about an inch and a half below my wrists, and I have average arms. This is also a very slim cut jacket. It doesn't allow a lot of layering and may not fit really curvy figures. I'm somewhat curvy and it's great, but the bottom band could be tight with larger hips.
