Outdoor Research, whose products bear the ubiquitous "OR" label, is regarded as a world-class technical outfitter known for high-quality mountaineering accessories. Outdoor Research's history goes back to 1981 when founder Ron Gregg was working on his doctorate in applied physics. A passionate mountain climber, he took a near-calamitous trip to the summit of Mt. McKinley with bad gaiters, suffered from cold, wet feet, and thereafter developed a snow-proof gaiter in his basement. Other products followed and Outdoor Research was born. Gregg found his niche in the "little things people don't give a second thought to, but wish they had." Outdoor Research designed first-aid kits, waterproof overmitts, casings to keep water bottles from freezing, and crampon pouches. Outdoor Research's famous Seattle Sombrero—a Gore-Tex® hat that looks more like a fedora than a sombrero — is still seen on the streets of Seattle (and slopes of nearby mountains) today. It's another example of "utilitarian chic" — the no-frills philosophy that has made Outdoor Research an innovative leader. ... Less

By urban walker from san francisco on 11/03/2009 Pros: Adjustable, Comfortable, Durable, Lightweight Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: comfortable and useful. I'm going to keep it in the trunk of my car so I'm prepared. Don't have to worry about it getting squashed. I got it because it has a strap and the wind would turn my umbrella inside out.
Looks good too.
By Internet Shopper from Ohio on 11/03/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Good Grip, Snug Fit, Warm, Windproof Best Uses: Backcountry, Working Outdoors Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Gear Usage: Cold Weather Living, Winter Sports Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Gloves are a snug medium. The liner is great in the gloves and fits perfectly. When the liner is in the gloves they are a snug medium but I'm not returning because I think the large would be too big. Gloves can be worn with/without the liner - there is some insulation in the gloves without the liner. The gloves are much more flexible without the liner but decent with it. It hasn't been bitter cold or wet to try them out but I think they were a great buy.
By Walking Mom from MN on 11/03/2009 Pros: Dries Easily, Durable, Good Grip, Warm, Water Resistant, Windproof Best Uses: Backcountry, Casual Wear, Driving, Hiking/Running, Working Outdoors Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Gear Usage: Cold Weather Living, Minnesota Winter Walks, Winter Sports Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I was really surprised by these mittens. They claim to be warm (I haven't really had to test them yet) but they are not bulky at all! They feel great on my hands. There is a grippy like design on the palms so my dog leash won't slip out of my hands this winter. Great mitten for the price!
