I didn't care for the desserts either but thought the cereal was pretty darn good.
Ate like a king in the middle of nowhere By Lucy's Girl from Plymouth, MN on 08/04/2009 Pros: Compact, Durable, Lightweight, Stable, Tasty Best Uses: Backpacking, Car Camping Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I was astounded by how yummy these meals were. I'd rate this a 4 1/2 if I could...only b/c the garlic herbed mashed potatoes were awful (the only one in the pack I didn't like). It also would've been nice if the omelettes were eat-from-the-bag, as with the scrambled eggs (not included with this pack).
I also appreciated the mesh bag provided. We took these on a 3-night canoeing trip to the Boundary Waters in MN--made retrieving and organizing our meals a bit easier.
By DJeffSmith from Richmond, VA on 07/28/2009 Pros: Convenient, Lightweight, Tasty Best Uses: Backpacking, Sea Kayaking Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Great to have this stash in the closet to allow you take off on your next adventure quickly. I've had these before and use the meals to supplement store bought food. Makes meal planning super easy.
By geohacker from los angeles, CA on 07/13/2009 Pros: Compact, Lightweight Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Very good tasting. The carrying bag has several uses too. Fast prep for two people and filling.
The Best Dehydrated Food There Is By H from Clifton Park, NY on 07/09/2009 Pros: Compact, Lightweight Cons: Some difficult to make Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: The cheesecake and the granola are the easiest to make; you just add cold water. We ate these on the trail. Most of the others require only adding hot water. However the apple cobbler and the eggs require to much cooking for my taste.
Nice mix of lightweight meals By Jim[*] from Minnesota on 07/03/2009 Pros: Compact, Lightweight, Liked the mesh bag Best Uses: Bike touring and canoeing Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I was pleasantly surprised to find everything packed in a mesh bag.
By snarg from Bozeman, MT on 05/26/2009 Best Uses: Backpacking, High Altitude, Hiking Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Comfort Driven Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Great price, and a good selection of entrees for a three day trip. I dont understand the extra bulk of the bags. It seems kind of heavy but I guess the calories are packed in there, I was planning on eating everything not a 2 person meal & I was planning on adding olive oil for extra calories too. Can't I be a comfort driven minimalist?
Good price for weekend getaway By cosmo from El Dorado County, CA on 05/18/2009 Pros: Compact, Lightweight, Stable Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Comfort Driven Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Good solid base for food for 2 people/ 3 days. Good price compared to individual purchase. Food is not bad, typical pre-made backpacking stuff. I usually add to packaged foods things to spice things up, as well as include some fresh food. Handy storage sack to suspend for bear control. Not a big fan of the desserts.
Great for our emergency evacuation bag By FL-Jan from Southwest Florida on 05/14/2009 Pros: Compact, Good dating, Lightweight, Tastes good Best Uses: Backpacking, Emergency supplies Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: We use this product in our hurricane/wildfire evacuation bag. It provides the necessary 3 day supply of food for 2 people. The dating is always excellent on this product so we don't have to resupply annually, if not used. It is lightweight. The latter is important because our evacuation bag contains everything we & our 3 large dogs could possibly need. The only thing we have to factor in is extra water to make this food.
