Great light for the price! By bmak57 from boston on 06/15/2009 Pros: Bright, Durable, Long battery life Best Uses: Backpacking, Car Camping, Day trip, Hiking Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I have been using this light for just under a year. This is an extremely bright beam with very good battery light. The only downside that I can see to this light is that to keep it permanently on (it has a tactical push button on/off switch as well, works as long as the button is pressed) the end cap has to be twisted. It's good in that the light will not accidentilly turn on in your pack (or pocket) but tough to do with one hand when required. This didn't keep me from rating it 5 stars though. Highly recommended.

By Gatorguy from Maryland on 03/25/2009 Pros: Bright, Durable, Stable Best Uses: Anytime you need light Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This light was suprising. The light is rated at 176 Lumens which is probably very optimistic, but it is brighter then my Pelican rated at 80. [...], I can't imagine a better option. Very durable, very bright, and AA batteries make it a little cheaper to stay lit, and it is small and compact. The "belt clip" is red so it adds contrast to the black color but don't expect anything else from it.
Very good compact 3-watt basic torch By Joel, avid outdoor enthusiast from Bloomington, Indiana on 01/23/2009 Pros: Bright, Compact, Durable, Quality built, Simple Cons: On or off not dimmable Best Uses: Backpacking, Car Camping, Day trip, Hiking, Protection, SAR Describe Yourself: Outdoor Professional Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: For the value, I rated this light 5 starts. In terms of design and build quality overall, 4.5/5 stars.
What I like:
For around thirty bucks, it's a very good value. It is one of the most compact 2AA LED torches I have owned. The beam is very clean and projects a useful spot light more than 100 yards. Brightness from the 3-watt chip is on par with much more expensive models. In my unit, the color is an even white with a slightly cool tone. Machining quality is excellent. Waterproofness appears adequate. The switch design is twist on/off and momentary on and should be VERY durable given the mechanics of operation (offers SOS signaling with ease).
What could be better:
The two things I don't like about it compared to more expensive counterparts: 1) it does not feature voltage regulation; thus, it will not be quite as bright on Ni-MH batteries, and is not compatible with higher voltage lithium AA's (which are great for rescue work because they are super long lasting but not rechargeable). 2) the lens in not deeply recessed in the head, so it doesn't feature the kind of lens protection/durability you would expect from a military/tactical grade light (usually about $100). 3) The pocket clip is secure, but should be made a bit more robust for the long term (and to keep you from loosing the light if you were to jump or become inverted!).
Overall, a great buy; however there are a lot of competitors out there now so I would not claim it is the best you can do for 30 bones.
