It's also sized for someone very tall -- I'm 5'6" and the belt loops are much too low.

The fabric, while lovely quality, is very heavy and bulky. I decided to keep it because I like the fabric and construction but I wish I'd returned it. I am 5'10" and wear a women's size 12-14. Because of the previous reviews I ordered the small and it was enormous on me. I think this is a man's large, at least. The sleeves were 6-8" too long. I had to cut them off. I wish I'd returned this robe.

It will need to be altered the sleaves, and that is annoying.

Who cares about sleeve length as long as it is not dragging in food etc. and who cares about robe length if you are adquately covered?

I got a XL and M/L for my 8 mth pregrent wife. The XL, I could put two of her into. She is normally a 16ish. Even the M/L is large on her, and I have to roll up the sleves on it for her. Having said it is well constructed and feels well.
