Awesome shoes
By 1smith from Tucson, AZ on 11/02/2009
Pros:
Arch Support, Breathable, Comfortable/No Break-In, Durable, Great Traction, Shock-Absorbent
Best Uses:
Mixed Terrain, Rocky/Unstable Terrain
Describe Yourself:
Climber, Recreational Walker/Hiker
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Comments:
These shoes are great. Although they are trail runners I got them as approach shoes. The traction is fantastic and they are very comfortable - even after a two-hour bushwack approach in extremely varied terrain.

Pretty awesome sneakers!
By nesser from Vermont on 10/14/2009
Pros:
Arch Support, Breathable, Comfortable/No Break-In, Stabilizes Foot
Best Uses:
Everyday, Mixed Terrain
Describe Yourself:
Recreational Walker/Hiker
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Comments:
These sneakers were a great deal. They are not the perfect match for me because I'm not using them for trail running, but I've found a great brand of sneaker/hiker--Montrail. I'm impressed with how well the shoe grips my heel and stabilizes my foot (I'm an over-pronator). I am on my feet at work for many hours and I also use them for walks and light hikes. I had to add Superfeet inserts to provide extra, firmer arch support, but these shoes work PERFECTLY with the Superfeet. No aches in my feet and calves! I had been about to give up on my Superfeet, but maybe they just needed the right shoe to go in. These sneakers are very well-structured. These shoes are garishly cute/cool. Mine are lime green and blue and I think they're really fun looking and stylish in their way. Happy to find a supportive shoe that does lead to pain in my feet AND looks fun!

Great Deal
By Kriste from Black Mountain, NC on 09/28/2009
Pros:
Arch Support, Durable, Great Traction
Cons:
Heavy
Best Uses:
Mixed Terrain, Muddy Conditions, Rocky/Unstable Terrain
Describe Yourself:
Road runner
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Comments:
I have had several Montrail shoes in the past and have loved them. But I've never had a pair for running on the trails. I thought for [$], why not give these a try. And I really like them so far. I've been on 2 runs with them, an 8 miler and a 4 miler with No problems. I am normally a road runner and run in Puma's that are really lightweight. So I will say on my first run, the shoes made my legs feel like lead, but the second run I didn't notice it so much. And I love the bright colors!

Just bought 2nd pair, gotta love em!
By Shoe-doerVerified Reviewer from Pt. Richmond, CA on 09/07/2009
Pros:
Breathable, Comfortable/No Break-In, Great Traction
Best Uses:
Everyday, Mixed Terrain, Rocky/Unstable Terrain
Describe Yourself:
Dog walker, Gym Rat, Recreational Walker/Hiker, Trail Jogger
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Comments:
Have worn the first pair steadily, even on long day hikes. I guess you either love em or hate em, judging by the reviews. I bought 2nd pair for the bright colors. I would not say they run a full 1/2 size large. They are styled narrow through the toe and forefoot like approach shoes, but I'm between a 9.5-10 and there's plenty of room in the 10 for heavier socks. Heavily padded ankle looks a little odd at first (kind of like a skate shoe), but turns out to be really comfortable.

2nd Pair Just as Cool
By Jbug on waterVerified Reviewer from Pt. Richmond, CA on 08/27/2009
Pros:
Breathable, Comfortable/No Break-In, Great Traction
Best Uses:
Mixed Terrain
Describe Yourself:
Dog walker, Gym Rat, Hiker
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Comments:
Liked the first pair I bought so much I ordered these blue/green ones as soon as I saw they were on offer. Have day-hiked in my first pair, scrambled on rocks, just knocked about with my dog. I admit, sometimes I buy shoes I like but don't actually wear them much. Not so with these. I know I'll eventually wear out both pair. The color scheme on these blue/green/brown ones is not for the timid, but that suits me fine.

Truly An Ugly Shoe !

Recreational Walker/Hiker

Shoe runs on the small side. To be comfortable should get one size bigger. Very stiff and bulky. Colors were truly ugly. Not the same as shown online. Had to return.

Unique Trail Shoes
By Lover of ShoesVerified Reviewer from Pt. Richmond, CA on 05/24/2009
Pros:
Breathable, Comfortable/No Break-In, Great Traction
Best Uses:
Mixed Terrain, Rocky/Unstable Terrain
Describe Yourself:
Recreational Walker/Hiker, Trail Jogger
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Comments:
An approach shoe with a slim profile but a puffy (heavily-padded) ankle, which takes some getting used to visually but is quite comfortable. I did a combo run-walk in the hills around my house today and was very satisfied with them. Super sticky soles would be good for bouldering.
