By MG from Chicago, IL on 10/29/2009 Describe Yourself: Practical, Stylish Sizing: Feels full size too small Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This sizing on this hat is definitely off. My head measured 23", but the hat that fit was 24". The hat seems to be of decent quality, although, the supposed [$] retail price appears way too high.

Best possible value for under $200.00 By Cold Comfort from Fargo, ND on 06/11/2009 Pros: Adjustable, Breathable, Comfortable, Durable, Lightweight, Stylish Cons: Does Require Adjustment Best Uses: Ear Safety, Travel, Warmth Describe Yourself: Comfort-oriented, Practical, Work wear oriented Sizing: Feels half size too small Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I have read the many complaints about the size and fit of this hat.
The inner hat band is sewn too small.
I put wood clamps inside and expanded them until the inner band broke. The hat streched out perfectly with zero damage. I don't even know why it has an inner band.
People say the flaps are too long too tie under chin. I do not believe they need to tie under chin -- they will tuck right into your coat -- better still. The tie is to keep the flaps up when desired.
The excess head room is to keep a warm, dead air space above your head in frigid weather, rather than having your head right up against the outside -- providing less insulation from the cold.
I think this is a fantastic hat and I plan to enjoy the comfort it will provide in the commonly -20 to -35 degee weather and accompanying high winds that we experience in North Dakota.
Great value, Great price. Thanx JPW

When is X-tra large not X-tra large? By MichNort from Boston, MA on 02/04/2009 Best Uses: On head is best if fits Sizing: Feels full size too small Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: You can imagine my anticipation as I greedily opened the package from STP containing my Aston Patrol Shearling hat. It gets cold here in the Northeast and those watch caps just seem to slip up my head and leave my ears exposed, especially when shovelling mounds of snow! I had ordered the X-tra large hat for my somewhat larger than average sized noggin. The Aston was magnificently soft with generous and furry ear flaps. I positioned the hat above my head and attempted to slip it on. Well, the x-tra large size isn't. I double checked the label and packing slip to see if I happened to get a woman's x-tra large but nope. This was a man's. Perhaps heads in the country of origin are not quite as full as here in the US. Oh well, another winter of cold ears.
Beautiful Hat ,Too Bad Nothing Fits By Capt.Nemo from New York on 01/26/2009 Pros: Durable, Lightweight, Stylish, Warm Cons: No element fits properly, Poor Fit Best Uses: Warm Head in Cold Weather Describe Yourself: Comfort-oriented, Good Gear for good Value, Practical Sizing: Feels full size too small Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I really wanted this hat.Well made WARM ,good special price..BUT,NO ELEMENT OF THIS HAT FIT PROPERLY.1) Full size too small.2) Crown much too deep, so that hat covered eyes when pulled on. 3)Also, when pulled down, ear flaps were consequently so long that they could not be tied snugly below the chin to keep cold air out.Returned it.disappointed.
