Cool Design, comfortable bottoms. By Roe Red from Columbia, SC on 03/26/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Cold Weather, Day Hiking, Heavy Loads, Light Loads, Long-Distance Hiking, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer, Casual/Recreational Sizing: Feels half size too big, Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: The shoe bed is like walking on pillows. I can definitely tell there is support. The sole of the shoe is wide and the traction grips great. These shoes would be great for rocky and unstable terrain. The ankle support is great. That's why I bought the boots. They are my first hiking BOOT. As my hikes have increased in difficulty I've needed more ankle support. Our last hike (through a rain forest in Costa Rica over about 2500ft altitude walking on rocks and vines) made my ankles swell up for days and I think these boots will stop that from happening. I got a 1/2 size smaller because the reviews said the shoe runs large. With the 1/2 size smaller it is a perfect fit with a wool hiking sock. The lacing system ROCKS. I was skeptical at first since my husband's Keens have a similar lacing system and he's always adjusting his, but these laces don't stretch that much and once you get them set in a great position you don't have to worry about them coming untied. It's a moderate temperature here so I haven't tested them in hot, cold or extremely wet conditions.
great traction not great fit By seisha228 from Las Cruces, NM on 03/21/2009 Pros: Comfortable/No Break-In, Flexible, Great Traction Cons: Stretched out quickly Best Uses: Day Hiking, Light Loads Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Sizing: Feels half size too big Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I wanted a boot that had really good traction for scrambling on steep uphill slopes when hiking and this shoe does that. The first few times I wore them they were very comfortable but wasn't doing any climbing. The first time I went uphill I came back with a blister on my little toe as they were too loose for steep grades. I now wear two pairs of hiking socks when I know I'm hiking uphill and that seems to help but wouldn't recommend these.
By Marianne the Mom from Upstate NY (Adirondacks) on 02/19/2009 Pros: Comfortable/No Break-In, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Cold Weather, Day Hiking, Harsh Terrain, Long-Distance Hiking, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Got called for a last-minute hike last October. My old boots had just been retired. Received these boots on a Tuesday, and the hike was Saturday. I had no problem breaking them in (wore them every day for a few hours), thanks to Salomon's seamless technology. Our 14-mile hike in the Adirondacks wasn't pretty: the rain, sleet, snow & bone-chilling wind was the ultimate test for the boots. My feet did not get cold, but they did get wet, due to the rain dripping down my pants and into the boots through the opening for my feet. The waterproofing was so good that once the water got in, it couldn't get out! The boots gripped the rock really well, and my ankles were very secure as I negotiated the rough terrain.
The boots run large, but if paired with a thick pair of wool socks, they fit nicely.
Further waterproof testing in puddles turned out fine.
I love these boots; they felt like slippers from the day I put them on, and they've proven themselves in some of the harshest weather conditions I've encountered in my numerous hikes.
By Snow Dragon from Oswego, NY on 01/26/2009 Pros: Stable, Water Resistant Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I ordered these to pair with my snowshoes. They seemed OK with the snowshoes, but actually walking (2 miles) was painful. Both feet cramped up from the rigid footbed. They have no flex at all. One of the rubber corners of the toe bumper curled inward during manufacturing and left me with a knot on the top of my big toe. For the price, I expected better. I'll be returning these.
Nice boot, judgement out on the lacing By Cyber-redhead from Eastern Washington State on 01/19/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Great Traction, Stable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Backcountry, Cold weather, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Nice fitting boot and light weight! The jury is still out on the lacing system -- I prefer to tighten my own, but this system may be fantastic once I'm out in the wilds testing the boot.

Salomon Super X Pro Hiking Boots By heather from hooper, ne on 01/02/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction, Stable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Cold weather, Everyday, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Sizing: Feels half size too big Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: What can I say but that these boots are exceptional! I own a few other pairs of hiking boots and these are by far the most comfortable by a long shot. They do run a half size big since I normally always wear a size 6 and I fit just right into a size 5.5 in these. They feel like walking in tennis shoes because they are lighter than a lot of hiking boots too. I'm very glad I purchased these Salomon boots and highly recommend them. They're definitely keepers. Thanks STP!
