Am hoping this doesn't indicate a coating that may be un-safe. Just enough warmth to take the edge off a cold, wet breeze.
By Ted the skier from Schuylkill Haven, PA on 12/28/2008 Pros: Breathable, Durable, Lightweight, Stylish, Warm Best Uses: Casual Wear, Cold Weather, Hiking and Camping, Skiing/Snowboarding, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Outdoor Professional Chest Size: Feels too small Sleeve Length: Feels too short Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: As with a few soft shells, the size cut is small. Also, the pockets are too bulky in the mid area. I returned it.
By ratherbe from Victoria BC on 11/24/2008 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Durable, Thoughtful design, Warm, Weatherproof Best Uses: Casual Wear, Cold Weather, Hiking and Camping, Most everything, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of this jacket. Durable, sheds snow, wind and some rain well. Lots of useful pockets, all of which have smooth zippers. Ditto for the main zipper, despite the "unisex" design (really, why not make this universal).
I WILL buy Mammut again, and may pick up another one of these if I can provide myself with enough justification.
The cut is not slim/small like many European makes; more like North American.
By Gus the Coat Fanatic from The North Coast on 11/15/2008 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Durable, Lightweight, Windproof Best Uses: Casual Wear, Hiking and Camping, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This jacket gets used for rock climbing, hiking and everyday wear. It is of the same quality as other manufacturers such as Arc'T Marmot and TNF but with the Mammut (mamoot) you don't need to feel like a clone at the mall. I have actually received numerous compliments on this jacket. It really fends off the wind and rain and makes a great shell, but it doesn't insulate. It is not meant to however--hence it is a shell. I have been very happy with a Patagonia Synchilla sweatshirt or ElCap zip under it on 30 degree days. If you are really moving you might not even need that level of layering. The only thing that was a little disconcerting is they use the European zipper which is opposite ours--with the pull on the left. After 2 days i was used to this and it is not really a bother. Overall, a Great jacket--'nuff said.
By not your real name from Knoxville, Tn on 11/14/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Waterproof Best Uses: Cold Weather, Hiking and Camping, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels too long Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Nice jacket. I feel the medium that I ordered feels more like a large,( I usually need a large in all jackets), I already knew this from having other Mammut products.
