Quality Jacket, casual look By J Nabil from Ashland, OR on 01/19/2010 Pros: Durable, Lightweight Best Uses: Casual Wear, Cold Weather, Hiking and Camping, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: This seemed to be an ok jacket. I returned because I needed a smaller size (I drowned in a medium, I'm 5'8, 155#), I should have gotten a small. Quality is good. Fabric seemed less soft than some but ok and looked very durable. The styling is somewhat casual and plain for a soft shell-not trendy but you can see that in the pics. The cuffs have no adjustability and no elastic to keep them snug on wrists, therefore they would not keep out the cold very well unless you happen to have the perfect sized wrists for the opening size. the zipper pull is delicate looking but the gliding part is fine.
I wouldn't have exchanged even had STP carried a smaller size as the jacket seemed plain-looking and the lack of cuff closure reduced utility. It did look to be of high quality and function, cuff issue aside. STP's price makes this about the lowest cost softshell you're likely to find so if the features, style, and color work for you, it would be a good value but I think there are better softshells for a little more money.
By Mr. Zayas from New Britain, CT on 10/22/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Durable, Lightweight, Warm, Windproof Best Uses: Casual Wear, Hiking and Camping Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Great soft shell for cool temps in spring and fall. Has good pocket placement and light weight. I don't like the double zipper and main zipper seems weak and not durable. I would have liked a shoulder pocket, BUT for the price a great deal compared to other soft shells!

By G the active grad-student from Austin, TX on 10/10/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Lightweight, Warm, Waterproof, Windproof Best Uses: Casual Wear, Cool Weather, Hiking and Camping, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought the product primarily for casual wear. I have a couple significant walks each day for grad school that can be less than ideal if my jacket is not relatively water proof and wind proof. This softshell has stood up to the test in keeping me warm through wet 50-60 degree days. Cold in-door temperatures (60 degrees) are handled quite well because it breathes and doesn't overheat. I have gotten numerous complements on the way it looks, which I like also. The pockets are well positioned. I am 6'2' and a pretty lean 215lbs, and the fit is ideal in length, etc. I would not wear this jacket when the weather dips below 50 because it is simply not made for it. It is a great buy to be sure.
By Big White Bear from Frankfurt, Germany on 08/14/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Lightweight, Warm, Windproof Best Uses: Casual Wear, Hiking and Camping Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I absolutely love this jacket! My wife can't get it off of me! It's very comfortable, lightweight and can be packed anywhere. I'm an extra large kind of guy and the XL size of this jacket is spot on. Merrell quality has always been second to none and this jacket reflects that. I highly recommend this product.
By Salty from Columbus, OH on 06/01/2009 Cons: Not Athletic, Poor Cut Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sleeve Length: Feels too long Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: The Material is fine, standard for this type of jacket. The sizing is very over sized. Expect to need at least a size under. I wear a perfect medium in Mountain Hardware and Patagonia, but am swimming in this medium. Seems slightly heavy (literally in grams, not warmth) for its type of coat. Worst of all of these though is its cut is extremely pedestrian, and not at all suitable for outdoor (climbing/hiking/paddling) wear.
Great looking jacket for work or play! By Busy mom in and out of doors from Rochester NY on 05/19/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Durable, Lightweight, Stylish Best Uses: Could be warmer Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Very good looking, not bulky or stiff looking like some soft shells, my husband wears it everywhere in Spring and Fall.
excellent lightweight soft shell. By mtctsnowboard beach lover. from northeast on 05/08/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Durable, Lightweight, Warm Best Uses: Casual Wear, Hiking and Camping, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Very good quality, lightweight yet tough material for active or casual use. They should have used a simpler zipper. Two zipper slides is overkill on a jacket like this.
