After years of bad mouthing trekking poles, I now find that they do indeed give you extra push on the uphill and greater stability on the downhill.

Comments:
These were the first trekking poles I've ever used so I have nothing to compare it to, but I was very pleased with them. My brother and I each used one pole during a 3 day trek through the Andes of Peru (the Lares Trek to Machu Picchu). I didn't know what to expect from them but I'm *sure* they helped keep me out of streams, from sliding down rocks and lessened the impacts to my knees. I was worried I would get annoyed carrying them for 3 days, they were lightweight and useful so I wouldn't have it any other way. I really have no complaints, but again, I have nothing to compare them to.
