They're sturdy without being too heavy, with good toe and ankle protection.

One month and they get better every day By al from North, Ga on 01/19/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support, Great Traction Best Uses: Cold Weather, Everyday, Harsh Terrain Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I have had these about a month and have worn them about 20 times. I haven't been on the trails yet since they have not broken in enough. At first they were tight around my achilles area. I guess they are this way to keep the heel from slipping. They have eased up now and there are no issues there. I would be will to bet though that this area will be the first to wear out. The sued doesn't repell water like slick oiled leather but water has not soaked through to the foot yet. The toe box is big and that is a plus for me. They don't have an athletic shoe feel like some boots. These have a boot feel with a firm stable footbed.

I build houses that start in the dirt. These boots let me move about without considering where my next step has to be. Also, because of the thick sole, I am not worried about nails poking through! I have been buying a new set of Vasque boots every year for over 10 years!
