Reasonably warm but needs good layering underneath in very cold conditions.
By Ben & Simons Dad from Watertown, NY on 01/29/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Warm, Windproof Best Uses: Casual Wear, Cold Weather, Skiing/Snowboarding, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought this for skiing, However, I have been wearing it on a daily basis. Upstate NY, it has been cold!! The past two weeks avg temp has been below 10 & I have been very comfy. I use it to snow blow, ski, work, play. I love all the pockets, especially the Ipod pocket with pass through hole. My kids are jealous, they want the same coat!
By Middle Aged Ski Bum from Falmouth, ME on 01/27/2009 Pros: Breathable, Durable, Lightweight, Stylish Best Uses: Casual Wear, Cold Weather, Spring skiing Describe Yourself: Outdoor Professional Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Perfect for the spring skiing adventurer allowing you to layer up underneath, hood up in snow or rain and stay dry throughout the day. My wife says the front pockets remind her of Toughskins jeans, but she's not the one wearing this.
Fantastic jacket, sick price! By Po' Boy from Hinterland, USA on 12/19/2008 Pros: Burly shell fabric, Comfortable, Durable, Low-key style, Stylish, Warm Best Uses: Cold Weather, Making folks jealous, Moseying, Skiing the stash Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This jacket is slick, you WILL love the Tweaker Tweed, burly as all get out. You WILL stay toasty warm, thanks to the Primaloft. You WILL look like you just pulled up in a beat up F-150, and people WILL expect you to smell like cows.
If it gets too cold you have enough room to put on light down sweater like the one from Patagonia, and stay even warmer without losing mobility.
This is a great jacket, with minimal bells and whistles, and the material moves really well with you without feeling "boardy". I'm 6'5' and it fits like a glove; long in the torso, long in the wingspan. The price is way cheap too, you'd have to steal it to get it at a better price!
By Snake Bite Bob from Columbia Mo on 12/18/2008 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Durable, Lightweight, Stylish, Warm Best Uses: Casual Wear, Cold Weather, Extreme Conditions, Hiking and Camping, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I will be wearing this jacket for many many winters. It feels great, looks great, performs great. I could not possibly be happier with my purchase. Also, I think it has some magnetic polarity with the Rocky Mountains; when I put it on it tends to pull me west. It wants to get off these plains!!
Good looking and good wearing jacket By Bejayzusjames from Brooklyn, NY on 12/11/2008 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Durable, Lightweight, Stylish, Warm Cons: Not Enough Pockets or Features Best Uses: Casual Wear, Cold Weather, Hiking and Camping, Skiing/Snowboarding, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This is a great jacket to wear around the neighborhood. I've received several compliments on how good it looks. I don't think it would be sufficient on its own in very cold weather--you'd need to use an underneath layer. My only minor complaint is I wish that the side pockets were deeper.
I would buy this product again By Sienna from Maine on 12/10/2008 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Durable, Lightweight, Warm, Waterproof Best Uses: Cold Weather, Skiing/Snowboarding Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I never heard of this company... and I was impressed of the quality and the price through Sierra Trading Post is always.. the BEST!!!!
By Commuter from Chicago, IL on 11/15/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Repels water like a duck, Warm, Windproof Best Uses: Cold Weather, Hiking and Camping, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Outdoor Professional Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I use this jacket pretty much every day. I live in Chicago and ride my bike to work regardless of snow, rain, cold, etc. This jacket is about as waterproof as it could be. It also has a great amount of insulation and ventilation to keep me warm, but not too warm.
I've worn other jackets that claimed to be water-resistant that worked for only the first couple times they were worn. Granted, this jacket hasn't gotten through a whole winter yet, but I'm optimistic.
The jacket is also made extremely well. Its construction makes my Helly Hansen gear feel cheap. Good seams, quality material inside and out. Solid zippers. Velcro and pockets where necessary. Inside elastic to keep the wind/snow out.
Future models would do better to have an attached/detachable hood, but I knew this one didn't have one before I bought it, so I have nothing bad to say there.
