bought every year for 5 -best base layer By paco from CA, Utah & BC canada on 12/13/2007 Pros: Lightweight, Moisture Wicking, Warm Cons: Doesn't stretch much Best Uses: Cold Weather, Competition, Snow Sports Describe Yourself: Competitive Athlete Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: this without a doubt is my favorite base layer.
I buy a new 2 tops + 1 bottom every year for 30+ days skiing. Silk is stronger than steel, thus you dont get much stretch, except as weave gives up slack, but this is single filiment and quite thin so ther is little binding. Fits to size + 2 inch play. Buy right sz or large, as there is is very lttle give.
COld weather warmth is all about getting moisture away from skin and regulating air flow. Silk is best for moisture movement to next level and skin max dry. These are the GOLD standard.
I often wear the old beat up one on top this years nice clean, for doubled dryness in sweaty skiing. 1mm added bone dry dead air above skin adds 10deg to comfort with no risk of being too warm.
Cool weather a single lite layer on top and open the jacket vents to get sweat to evaperte.
COLD- a couple more layers
Freezing your buns off cold - wind block and protect your face, neck and ears - I'm always the warmest guy in the group. Dry skin in the key.
These get tattered pretty easy being so thin. Same as run in stockings but I never regret the use. Minimize snaggs, Hand wash, hang dry for 2 hrs and good for next day.
