By jb from seattle, wa on 11/02/2009 Describe Yourself: Long-time Pet Owner Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: this has proven a great choice for a 40 lbs dog. Be sure to measure the girth. My dog either likes or atleast doesn't seem to mind carrying the pack. Most importantly it it does not appear create discomfort!

Guess they run big.
By Tanner from Rochester , NY on 10/07/2009 Pros: Fun, Tough, Versatile Describe Yourself: Long-time Pet Owner Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: straps are too long for the intended size dog.
I use a small on a 40 pound aussie and have an extra foot of strap. The strap padding could be secured instead of floating. Overall a great product that the dog enjoys.
By HikesWithDoggie from Upstate NY on 10/07/2009 Pros: Fun, Good Value, Tough, Versatile Describe Yourself: Long-time Pet Owner Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I recently purchased this pack with the concern that it wouldn't fit. I generally consider my ~50 lb. whippet / collie mix a medium-sized dog, but after reading several reviews, I decided to go with the small pack.
Even though he is deep chested, the pack fits my dog very well. When the pack is fairly balanced, it doesn't shift when he walks and runs. The pockets aren't large enough for a multi-day trip by any means, but they would carry a couple days' worth of food and any extra leash/harness stuff. I always carry a water filter and hydration pack, so the dog doesn't carry the water. I don't know how much the pack would hold if he did.
I'm planning a trip into the Adirondack High Peak region this weekend - we'll see how it holds up to steep slopes and boulders.

By Truckeebo from Truckee, CA on 10/05/2009 Pros: Durable, Good Value, Tough Best Uses: Hikings, Larger Pets, Younger Pets Describe Yourself: Long-time Pet Owner Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I have two Border Collies and I use the pack 3-4 times/week for hikes and regular walks. This is my second dog pack, and considering the material that it's made of, it will last a while. My dogs run in the sage bushes chasing squirrels and having fun, and that was what killed my first pack. The storage bags are good sized and fits water bottles and food easily. I have two Gatorade bottles filled with water on each side, which makes 4 lbs, for my dogs. The pack has a very good fit on the back of the dog ( at least on my dogs). Luckily enough I read some reviews before I bought this pack and I picked a small size for my 50 lbs dogs. The packs are BIG in size!
If there are any draw backs , it would be that there is no support over the shoulders where the dog has the most strength. The pack sits like a horse saddle on the back of the dog.
Another thing is the strap locks. On my first dog pack, I could adjust the straps for the dog once and that was it. On this pack the adjustment for the snap locks easily loosens up and you have to tighten it again. Over all, I like this dog pack very much!
By Camping Newbie from Indianapolis Indiana on 10/03/2009 Describe Yourself: Long-time Pet Owner Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This pack fits my smaller Standard Poodle to a "T". She pulls a lot on her leash while walking (yes, we're working on it) so I don't clip her leash to this pack. I clip her leash to her collar instead. This pack holds all her water, food and poop bags for woodsy hikes. It's good looking, too!I like the way the zippers are protected from the elements, they are covered by the lip of each pack lid. There is an elastic cord to tuck items under, as well as a mesh pocket on top. It has two belly straps, not just one, in addition to the strap that goes across her chest. I like this pack better than the others I own.
By Miamihawk from Kansas on 10/01/2009 Best Uses: Larger Pets, Younger Pets Describe Yourself: Long-time Pet Owner Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Like the build of this pack. Glad I read the reviews about this product running big. My dog is a Dobie mix weighing in at 55 lbs and the small fits perfect. So far he doesn't mind wearing the pack.
Nice but fixtures are a bit flimsy By doglife101 from Washington, DC on 09/30/2009 Pros: Good Value, Versatile Best Uses: Larger Pets, Older Pets, Travel Describe Yourself: Long-time Pet Owner Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: My dog accepted it right away but since he is very active and squirrelly, the dog pack hardly stays in position. The rash guards are nice but they, too, are not as firm as I would like. Overall a good product but still some room for improvement.
