Nice but fixtures are a bit flimsy By doglife101 from Washington, DC on 09/30/2009 Pros: Good Value, Versatile Best Uses: Larger Pets, Older Pets, Travel Describe Yourself: Long-time Pet Owner Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: My dog accepted it right away but since he is very active and squirrelly, the dog pack hardly stays in position. The rash guards are nice but they, too, are not as firm as I would like. Overall a good product but still some room for improvement.
By Audrey from Seattle on 09/17/2009 Pros: Fun, Good Value, Versatile Describe Yourself: Long-time Pet Owner Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: We have two active Border Collies and are always looking for new ways to keep them (and us) active. Since our dogs are obsessed with playing ball we put the packs on and threw the ball; it didn't take long. They now carry their own supplies on hikes. Size small fit both our 50 lb bc, and our 40 lb bc.
By Jeff from Cheyenne, WY on 09/17/2009 Cons: Bad design, Not Durable Describe Yourself: Long-time Pet Owner Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I typically enjoy mountain smith products, and was excited when I found this on sale. I put it on the dog, and she seemed to enjoy it, it fit well. The problem is with the breast strap. My dog occasionally pulls, and was able to pop the strap from the seams, leaving me holding a leash with the pack on the end. Dont want to take it back and have the same problem.
By Adventurer Jim from Pine, Colorado on 09/12/2009 Pros: Fun, Good Value, Tough, Versatile Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: OK....this is different. Only because of the clearence price did I experiment with this. It looked to me that it could double as a "Poor Boy Pannier" on my beater bicycle I was taking to Burning Man. On my old "hard Tail" bike is a Trek rack for affixing a trunk pack. It seemed to me that the dog pack could straddle the "Mountan Rack" under the trunk pac. In short.....It worked as expected. I used zip ties on the belly straps to help hold it to the rack. My bike was my main source of transportation at Burning Man and the pack added needed extra storage. I think the next size up would be even better. HEY MOUNTAINSMITH !!!! You should work that angle with your packs ! I really like it ! Oh.....and I am sure it would work fine on a dog too.....hehehe
Fell apart after 2 hikes. By Mountain Hound from Portland, OR on 09/09/2009 Describe Yourself: New Pet Owner Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: main strap connecting the pack broke after 2 4 day backpacking trips. The design is well thought out, but for us, the durability was completely unacceptable.
By Happy Camper from Murfreesboro, TN on 08/31/2009 Describe Yourself: New Pet Owner Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Waiting for our puppy to grow into it. I think it will be great and it even matches our "people" Mountainsmith pack. It looks to be made for comfort.
By DaHiker from Pocatello, ID on 08/13/2009 Describe Yourself: Long-time Pet Owner Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I have used older models in the past and was happy to find this one on sale. However, the first time out, the breast strap broke loose from its insertion as the dog ran through some brush. My inquiry to Mountainsmith about repair has gone unanswered. All this is disappointing, to say the least, because I own and like other Mountainsmith products.
By AZhiker from Tucson, AZ on 07/20/2009 Pros: Fun, Good Value, Tough Describe Yourself: New Pet Owner Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought this pack for my 48 lb Brittany Spaniel and he loves it. After a few morning walks with an empty pack to get a feel he was hauling his own water on the trail a week later. The pack seems durable as it held up to a few encounters with trees as he got used to the added width. Got it on sale for [$], a great value over the [$] Ruffwear version. Images shared by: AZhiker
By hikergal from MI on 07/15/2009 Pros: Fun, Good Value, Tough Describe Yourself: Long-time Pet Owner Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This size small pack fit my male standard poodle, as well as a friend's 70# boxer. Goes on easily and is a snap to put on.
Lots of storage, but had a seam blow out By Mark the dog walker from Fowlerville, MI on 07/14/2009 Pros: Fun, Good Value, Versatile Best Uses: Larger Pets, Older Pets, Travel Describe Yourself: Long-time Pet Owner Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This is a great dog pack and I would definitely recommend it. I was looking at the Kelty and this seems to be larger so I can hold more stuff. My 45-50lbs lab loves this and and the small size fits her perfectly. The cons: after using this for a good 25 miles or more the front stitching where the buckle meets the pack started to come undone. [...]
