I believe that is due to the dense wool weave acting as a good wind barrier combined with the almost inapparent insulation between the wool outer layer and flannel inner lining. I purchased a bit on the large side in order to be able to fit lots of other things underneath when necessary. For this purpose, that works out. However, I could see that if one was looking for a more form-fitting coat, this would not be a good choice. Therefore, I intend to use this for cold-weather day-to-day wear. At full price, it would be too much since I am on a budget, but at the price offerred by Sierra Trading Post, that works out quite well for me. I most like that it is warm , versatile, comes with a detatchable hood, and comes in a variety of colors. However, the details I do not like as much are are the vertical-entry pockets (I prefer side entry), the button holes are an extremely close fit to the button size, and the hood is not adjustable and therefore sits on the loose side. I typically wear a size 6 these days, and purchased the S. I found that the sleeve length fits me well (halfway down the palms when weating perhaps 2 shirts underneath), but I am also 5'2". Therefore, someone taller might have issues with the sleeve length.

I've received several compliments on it already. The only con is the sleeves really are short, I'll have them lenthened about 3/4in.

I have to say the fabric is beautiful more for men's suiting than a ladies overcoat. Maybe a different color would have looked better, the loden did not suit me

The coat color is very pretty but the coat is absolutely not for East Coast winters. Good for spring or fall only. The quality of the wool is less than expected. Very lightweight with a poorly made interior lining. I would be uncomfortable wearing this coat to a special event. Additionally, the coat wrinkles and looks shabby. I'm returning it and don't recommend it.

I work as a retail store manager so I will wear this coat with my business-casual wardrobe for work. I will also wear it for colder evenings going out to gallery crawls and art shows. I removed the hood because that made it look too "country-casual". It fits me well because I am a reed [long and thin] and leaves plenty of room for several layers underneath. My only "complaint" [but it is minor] is that the sleeves are not as long as I prefer-- they hit right below my wrist bone... but, once again, I have long arms, and I am used to that problem. The color is also darker than in the picture-- but I think it is still a beautiful dark green [more forest or pine green than olive] I don't know yet how durable and waterproof it really is yet-- but it seems pretty decent. It is also thinner than I imagined from the description-- but I think that is a plus-- because I was worried that it would be too heavy.

It just didn't look right on me, so I did sent it back. However the material and workmanship of it is impeccable. It has a very nice plaid liner contrasting with the color. I had the dark green. It is made of 100% wool. Not warm enough for subzero temperatures, but very appropriate for chilli fall and spring weather. It looks like it would hold up nicely in the rain too, the wool is tight and feels water repellent. Very nice coat. If you like the duffle coat style, you can hardly go wrong with this one.
I woul buy a size bigger. It fit okay but the sleeves could have been a few millimeters longer and I like my coats kind of on the baggy side.

The only issue I had was that it was small across the chest and hips-if I had known that it was made using European sizes, I would have ordered a larger size. I gave the coat as a gift to my sister. It was the Rust color, and looked great.
