By Malcolm from Fairbanks Alaska on 11/17/2009 Pros: Comfortable, High Quality, Stylish, Warm Best Uses: Alaska Winter, Casual Wear, Everyday, Travel Describe Yourself: Comfort-oriented, Practical Sleeve Length: Feels too long Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This is a very warm, functional and stylish garment. Made from great wool and well contructed. On the down side the sizing is riidiulously larger than advertized. I have a 42" chest and typically wear size LARGE sweaters. I initially ordered a LARGE size of this sweater and received something that fit like a lumpy house dress. I sent it back and got a MEDIUM. Once again it was far too large for me; I would decscribe it as XX-LARGE. I considered returning it for a SMALL until I checked the website and noticed SMALL size was not available. I washed it in hot water and then dried it in the dryer and managed to shrink it to the perfect size!
I am now very pleased with the quality and fit of this sweater.

By RSI from Stafford Springs, CT on 11/12/2009 Pros: High Quality, Stylish, Warm Best Uses: Everyday, Travel Describe Yourself: Comfort-oriented, Practical Sleeve Length: Feels too long Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This is a very well-made product, but the Large size that I ordered was enormous. I ordered another Large sized sweater (Peregrine) from the same manufacturer and it fit as expected. The sleeves of the Commando reached at least 6 inches past my hands. the elbow patches were at my wrists. I returned it - hopefully the Medium will fit.
Very Nice - Colors are Great By LooksNice from Boston on 11/11/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Stylish, Warm Best Uses: Casual Wear, Everyday Describe Yourself: Classic, Practical, Stylish Chest Size: Feels true to size Length: Feels true to length Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This sweater is great! I didn't put it down as Office wear because the rules vary too much, but I'm able to, and do, wear this in my workplace. I really liked the color of the patches and how they match the sweater. I'm generally a no patch kind of guy, but at a desk they can help maintain the item.

Good but not as good as my old one. By Mannhy from Farmington, NH on 11/04/2009 Best Uses: Casual Wear, Everyday, Going Out Describe Yourself: Practical Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels too long Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought this to replace my old commando sweater which I have worn out after 10,000 wearings. This one is not as thick as the old one and the true leather patches on this one are more elegant but not as practical as the nylon ones old one which was a true commando sweater rather than a stylish copy. This is a good sweater, and I did not have to go to Scotland to get it. It was not quite what I was looking for it was a good purchase

Not "real" army issue quality......... By Tim from Michigan on 10/31/2009 Describe Yourself: Practical Chest Size: Feels too small Length: Feels true to length Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: Quality isn't poor, but I was expecting it to be similar to a REAL wool commando sweater .... which it definitely is not. I have an older West German Commando Sweater which is at least twice as warm and twice as strong.
It should be called a "commando styled" sweater.
Lastly the fit wasn't awful ...... but definitely too small for most americans in the shoulders; better fit for soccer players.
By Chris TKD from Virginia on 10/29/2009 Pros: Comfortable, High Quality Best Uses: Casual Wear, Everyday Describe Yourself: High-end shopper Chest Size: Feels true to size Length: Feels true to length Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I purchased the olive color version. It's a bit darker than expected but looks good. The wool is high quality and the sweater is comfortable.
By Commando from Humboldt County, CA on 10/26/2009 Describe Yourself: Classic, Practical Chest Size: Feels true to size Length: Feels true to length Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Just what I was looking for! With those shoulder an elbow patches I will be able to defend my sweater from all would be attackers. This is the sweater that coined the phrase "take the sweater off my back?". It was first made as a civilian sweater in England(sans elbow patches), early 1900's, until too many assaults occured on sweater wearers culminating in a mandate discontinuing civilian production. J.G. Glover had piles of new virgin wool with no market. They struck a deal with the government to issue the sweater to the elite commando branch of the army. This time with the elbow patches they are so famous for. The government believed this was the only safe market since no one in their right mind would think about attcking a commando. The few attacks that did occur ended in brutal suede covered elbows to the face. Hence the phrase "take the sweater off my back?" posed as a question. Defend your self! Defend your sweater!
By Limit in 10 from Wyoming on 10/25/2009 Pros: Comfortable, High Quality, Versatile, Warm Best Uses: Casual Wear, Going Out, Travel Describe Yourself: Classic, High-end shopper Chest Size: Feels true to size Length: Feels true to length Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I have had this item for over a year now and it is AMAZING. I wear it under my waders while bird hunting on the river. When days are below ZERO F, it saves my life. It is great weight, great construction and the leather patches are supple and add a wonderful touch to the item. Ever since I went to the camp with one, everyone else seems to acquire one the next trip.... go figure.
