Not "real" army issue quality......... By Tim from Michigan on 10/31/2009 Describe Yourself: Practical Chest Size: Feels too small Length: Feels true to length Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: Quality isn't poor, but I was expecting it to be similar to a REAL wool commando sweater .... which it definitely is not. I have an older West German Commando Sweater which is at least twice as warm and twice as strong.
It should be called a "commando styled" sweater.
Lastly the fit wasn't awful ...... but definitely too small for most americans in the shoulders; better fit for soccer players.
By Chris TKD from Virginia on 10/29/2009 Pros: Comfortable, High Quality Best Uses: Casual Wear, Everyday Describe Yourself: High-end shopper Chest Size: Feels true to size Length: Feels true to length Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I purchased the olive color version. It's a bit darker than expected but looks good. The wool is high quality and the sweater is comfortable.
By Commando from Humboldt County, CA on 10/26/2009 Describe Yourself: Classic, Practical Chest Size: Feels true to size Length: Feels true to length Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Just what I was looking for! With those shoulder an elbow patches I will be able to defend my sweater from all would be attackers. This is the sweater that coined the phrase "take the sweater off my back?". It was first made as a civilian sweater in England(sans elbow patches), early 1900's, until too many assaults occured on sweater wearers culminating in a mandate discontinuing civilian production. J.G. Glover had piles of new virgin wool with no market. They struck a deal with the government to issue the sweater to the elite commando branch of the army. This time with the elbow patches they are so famous for. The government believed this was the only safe market since no one in their right mind would think about attcking a commando. The few attacks that did occur ended in brutal suede covered elbows to the face. Hence the phrase "take the sweater off my back?" posed as a question. Defend your self! Defend your sweater!
By Limit in 10 from Wyoming on 10/25/2009 Pros: Comfortable, High Quality, Versatile, Warm Best Uses: Casual Wear, Going Out, Travel Describe Yourself: Classic, High-end shopper Chest Size: Feels true to size Length: Feels true to length Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I have had this item for over a year now and it is AMAZING. I wear it under my waders while bird hunting on the river. When days are below ZERO F, it saves my life. It is great weight, great construction and the leather patches are supple and add a wonderful touch to the item. Ever since I went to the camp with one, everyone else seems to acquire one the next trip.... go figure.

By hubby11 from Norther Virginia on 09/03/2009 Pros: Comfortable, High Quality, Warm Cons: Could be a little thicker Best Uses: Casual Wear, Everyday Describe Yourself: Comfort-oriented, Practical Chest Size: Feels true to size Length: Feels true to length Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Wanted to get a quality wool sweater to use as a layer for hunting. This fits the bill, a lot better than many "hunting" sweaters. There is a big difference between virgin wool and just wool. This one is not so itchy and almost feels soft to the touch. Will make a good warm layer under my hunting coat and on warmer days, will work as an outer layer.
