By Sun seeking walker from Colorado on 10/26/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Lightweight, Stylish Describe Yourself: Comfort-oriented, Practical, Quality, Style not fashion Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Well constructed, and attractive. I use it for shade on strolls around my Colorado neighborhood. The raffia crown lets breezes through, making it a nice summer hat. This crown also makes it less likely to blow off. Discrete raffia string around base of crown can be tightened, if desired, for wind, or if one needs a smaller size. My hat size is large, and this one fits comfortably, with a little ease for summer.
Would work as well for a walk along Kailua Beach, at a garden party, or in dense urban areas, even NYC, with it's dark brim and understated style. The neutral colors mean it can be worn with many clothes. Looks fine with shorts and with dresses
Having bought the hat at the end of summer, I cannot comment yet on durability. Wonder whether tossing it in a pack, or packing it, may cause it to lose some shaping. Arrives in a nice hat box for storage.
I like to keep wardrobe and packing simple, with clothes that work in many settings. This hat fits fits that model perfectly.
perfect warm weather hat! By Iroquois maid from Los Angeles,CA on 10/13/2009 Pros: Adjustable, Breathable, Comfortable, Durable, Lightweight, Stylish Best Uses: All the time hat, Casual Wear, Commuting, Travel Describe Yourself: Casual, Comfort-oriented, High-end shopper, Practical, Stylish Sizing: Feels half size too big Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: My quest for the perfect hat has finally ended. Bought it also for my best friend and mother-in-law. What does that say? Foam in headband secures it on head even if a bit big for me.
By nana from Rock Springs, WY on 09/14/2009 Pros: Adjustable, Breathable, Comfortable, Durable, Lightweight, Stylish Describe Yourself: Practical, Stylish, Trendy Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I love Helen Kamiski hats. I have one from about 10 years ago that was actually made in Austrailia that I still wear to keep sun off my hair and face when outside. She is the only company that I know that uses a neoprene strip in the crown front to keep a straw hat on your head in Wyoming winds!
High quality, wrong fit on me By hatlover from Northeast on 08/10/2009 Pros: Adjustable, Breathable, Comfortable, Packable Sizing: Feels full size too big Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This is a very well made hat, but despite the adjustable sizing with a raffia cord it was too large for my head. The canvas brim is crisp and holds its shape well. The hat rolls for packing quite easily. It seemed it would be cool on the head on a hot day. I was sorry to return it!

Helen Kaminski Madison Hat Raffia By Bea from North Carolina on 07/01/2009 Pros: Adjustable, Breathable, Comfortable, Durable, Lightweight, Stylish Describe Yourself: Casual, Comfort-oriented, High-end shopper, Practical, Stylish Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I will be using this on a cruise and for golfing in the south. Its packable..does not take up a lot of room in my suitcase and it rolls and pops back out to shape. I am always looking for excellent quality for a fair price. Might not have paid retail for it, but it was worth a try for the price at Sierra Trading Post. These days, you only get what you pay for out there in the retail world. This is a wonderful quality item. Thinking of ordering another color. If you like hats, go for it. You won't be disappointed.
