By Tracy the Lab Mom from An Island off the coast of Maine on 11/15/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Lightweight, Warm Best Uses: Casual Wear, Cold Weather, Hiking and Camping Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels too long Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I was looking for a lightweight down jacket that I could stuff in my pack on my winter hikes. This jacket fits the bill nicely. I ordered an XL ( I think that may have been all that was available at the time in the color I chose) and it certainly has loads of room for multiple layers under it. Even though it is an XL, the sleeves did seem to be a bit longer that I would expect. I think a size L would have allowed ample layering room and have been a better fit, but for the price I'll hang on to this one!
Greatest light weight down jacket. By BARNIE from SANTA ROSA CA on 11/13/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Compact, Lightweight, Warm Best Uses: Casual Wear, Cold Weather, Walking the dog Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I have been looking for a light weight warm jacket that packs easily into a tote/backpack. Also wanted a jacket to wear under my rain slicker and an older Marmot ski shell. This works perfectly. I also liked [...] the discounted price!
When you buy marmot you buy quality By the outdoor girl from chautauqua county on 11/11/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Durable, Great for under a shell, Lightweight, Warm Best Uses: Casual Wear, Cold Weather, Extreme Conditions, Hiking and Camping, Under a shell Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I returned this item only because the item did not match my shell. After I returned it, I was upset that I just didn't keep it. I had got it at a great price. Marmot has great products. The venus 800 is perfect for turning a jacket into a 3 in one with a rain shell.

Not up to my expectations By Diamonds and Blue Jeans from Phoenix, AZ on 11/04/2009 Cons: Collar uncomfortable, Fill not as expected, No zipper from bottom Best Uses: Casual Wear, Hiking and Camping Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Chest Size: Feels too small Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I already had a 650 count Marmot down filled jacket. It is a bit more bulky than I wanted. I backpack and wanted something that packs down small yet is extra warm. I thought I'd try the 800 count. I expected a fluffy jacket. Instead, it seems like the 800 has less fill; I guess, with better fill (800) they can use less quantity and hope for the same warmth? This jacket just doesn't seem warmer than my 650. Nor, is it as comfortable as my 650, which has a zipper that unzips from the bottom allowing comfort when sitting. The collar on the 800 pokes my chin - if I could upzip the zipper from the bottom a bit it would reduce the poking. As a resident of the beautiful Southwest I can't say that I will get much use out of this as an everyday casual jacket.
It seems a little tight. I'd like to have a bit more room to wear a heavy shirt underneath, maybe a light sweater.
I bought it for a purpose - backpacking, but it doesn't rise to the occasion.
By Altitude Runner from Denver, CO on 10/28/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Lightweight, Warm Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I baught this coat as a basic winter jacket and to wear while skiing. It offers the mobility that I need for hitting the slopes. For how lightweight it is, it is really warm. It also can be compressed into a small pouch that is part of the jacket.
Good looking and true to size By VikingWoman from Alaska on 10/27/2009 Pros: Comfortable, nice looking, Warm Cons: Lightweight, Not Waterproof Best Uses: Casual Wear, Cold Weather Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I really like how the jacket fits and how it looks. It is a warm, non-Michelin Man down jacket; however, I won't wear it in cold weather as my only insulation. It is much more lightweight than I anticipated. The down quality is high, but it's not very puffy. It would be good under a waterproof shell for really cold weather activities. Overall, I'm very happy with the jacket and plan to use it to layer up for the coming winter.
By Amy from Anchorage, AK on 10/22/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Durable, Lightweight, Warm Cons: Inadequate Protection Best Uses: Casual Wear, Cold Weather, Hiking and Camping, Skiing/Snowboarding Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I live in Anchorage, AK and hoped this would be my new winter coat. It is a great coat but it is not warm enough to be my only coat. it makes a great layer; it fits over my fleece and under my water proof shell. I love it and I get tons of compliments on the fun blue color.
