By Jenny from Victoria, Australia on 08/27/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Lightweight, Warm, Windproof Best Uses: Casual Wear, Cold Weather, Hiking and Camping, Skiing/Snowboarding, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This jacket is stylish enough for casual wear, it was fantastic in cold windy conditions and great in the rain. Hood was easy to manage, velcro cuffs are great - a little hard to undo with gloves on, but altogether a great jacket. I have not had it long enough to comment on durability.
By Espana and Beyond from New England on 08/10/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Lightweight, Pockets, Rolls up into hood, Warm, Windproof Cons: Doesn't breathe very well, Wears Out Quickly Best Uses: Casual Wear, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: At first I LOVED this coat. Fits well, nice size, VERY light, rolls up. After only about 6 months, the pockets broke through completely and the velcro at the wrists was wearing away at the gor-tex lining on the outside. I was disappointed, though it served me well through Europe.
By inCOfromMO from Boulder, CO on 07/14/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Lightweight, Waterproof Cons: Not Enough Pockets or Features Best Uses: Hiking and Camping, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought this jacket because the price was good for Gore-Tex, and I needed a lightweight jacket for hiking and biking in Colorado's unpredictable weather. This jacket certainly delivers on being waterproof and lightweight. Packs down small into a pack. It was also comfortable in the rain, I did not get that sticky, clammy feeling that I get with some raingear. It is nice to have the pit zips for additional ventilation, but I don't even notice the zippers when they are closed and I'm wearing short-sleeve or sleeveless shirts. The one downside of the jacket is that I wish it had one more pocket or two, especially at the chest on the outside or inside. Also, I bought a medium which is what I usually wear in Mtn Hardwear, and it is just a tad long in the arms; but the Velcro tabs at the cuffs make customizing the fit very easy. Other than that, it was a worthwhile investment.

By Jeff the engineer from Weatherford TX on 05/09/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Lightweight, Stylish Cons: No mesh liner, Non-intuitive drawstring Best Uses: Casual Wear, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I'm reviewing this for my daughter. This is her first Gore-Tex shell. She's headed to Costa Rica on a mission trip and it was suggested that she have a waterproof jacket.
My wife, my other daughter, and I all have used Gore-Tex shells for many years, none of them by Mountain Hardwear. Before this purchase, we hadn't used a shell with pit-zips.
Speaking for her, she likes the color, a light pastel lilac color. She likes the style but thinks it's weird to have pit-zips.
This product is extremely light; thus the PacLite trademark. It apparently has a much thinner layer of Gore_Tex material and the outer layer material be relatively thin as well. Another reason for its lightness is it doesn't have an inner mesh layer. But again, it does have pit zips.
No mesh layer:
This product might be more suited as a cold/wet weather shell, with inner layers of clothing that would keep the shell further away from your skin. In hot/wet weather, i.e., when you might be only wearing a t-shirt under this shell, the internal circulation of air might be an issue unless you use the pit zips. Of course, if you're in a downpour, the pit zips, if unzipped, will probably leak unless you're very careful or also carry an umbrella.
Non-intuitive hood drawstring:
One of the features touted on the tags attached to this product is the one-handed hood adjustment. It has one spring-loaded adjustment device centered behind the hood, allowing you to sinch up the drawstring that wraps from one side of the hood to the other. (All our other shells have one adjustment device on each side of the hood and both are located up front.) We've only tried it a time or two; so far, we haven't gotten the hang of adjusting it with just one hand. You can certainly adjust it with two hands.
I think this product would have its best and highest use with backpackers (I'm not a backpacker), where every ounce of gear is critical. However, it should be great for casual use as well.

By Tachandl from Concord, N.H. on 02/05/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Lightweight, Windproof Cons: Not Enough Pockets or Features Best Uses: Casual Wear, Cold Weather, Hiking and Camping, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels too long Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I was surprised that their weren't any pockets! It is wind resistant. Temperature has been 20 degrees below zero to hovering just below freezing. I just wear a warm sweater such as my dale of norway under the light jacket and I've been fine. I ordered a large, and am glad I did because normally I take a medium and my chest tens to run small anyway. It appears that the chest is disproportionate to the bottom of the jacket. Overall for the price, it was a great buy. What I thought were going to be pockets were just air vents. That' the only reason why I wouldn't recomend it to anyone.
