Silver Saucony Stabils are Super Stable By BEAST from Houston TX on 06/18/2009 Pros: Absorbs Shock, Breathable, Comfortable, Good Traction, Stable Best Uses: Pavement, Trails Describe Yourself: Gym Rat Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: The Stabil 6 was very stiff at first, and noticeably firm underfoot. But after about 20 miles now, I can feel it breaking in, mostly in terms of the shock absorbency and the forefoot flex.
Make no mistake, though--while it is very firm when just walking, it seems to handle the shock impact of my heavy bulk quite easily on the run. It isolates shock between the ground and me so I don't have to be bothered. The plantar fasciitis injury I incurred with an outgoing worn-out pair of New Balances is slowly diminishing, even though I'm still running (in these)!
The plastic heel counter, extended medial post, and internal arch support are all top notch. These are perfect for guys with flat feet. They really make me feel secure as I pound the trail.
It's a shame that Saucony discontinued these in favor of a softer, initially-more-comfy version (ProGrid Stabil CS), because I can't help but feel that stability--which is the whole name of the game for this shoe--must decrease when those other qualities are elevated.
This is hands-down the most supportive shoe I've ever bought. I'm beamin'! :D
