A dog's pack should be over their shoulders not too far down their back. In order to accomplish this I had to order a medium and add extra length to the chest strap as I have a dog with a very deep chest. The large would sit too far down his back and the belly strap would be too big. Definitely order the smaller size if your dog is close to two sizes.

He took to the pack very quickly and acted like he is really having fun. I increase the weight a little at a time to prepare for major back packs as he gets older.

I was really grateful for it so I would like to also share that this purchase was a great one. I needed something to wear my puppy out while also carrying her own water. The small was just barely too small (the strap under her chest) so I had to exchange for the medium, which the bags are pretty large but I know she's still growing so it'll balance out. The harness is perfect and I love the latch at the top. There's no wear or tear on her fur (she has light fur) and it doesn't move around on her either. We live in the desert and she doesn't seem to get too hot either. I recommend this product!
