By Garden buff from Canadian west coast on 01/31/2009 Pros: Attractive Design, Comfortable, Good Cut, Lightweight, Versatile, Well Made Best Uses: Biking, Daily Use, Gardening, Horseback riding, Travel, Walking Describe Yourself: Casual Dresser Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I love this vest as it is good looking yet cosy. It fits well under jackets. I am tall - 5'11" (34 inseam) and have to search for tall vests. This is the best one yet but I doubt a short person would be happy with it. It almost covers my bum which is great for me. I love the stand up collar that keeps me warm outside but can be folded down nicely for indoor use. The vest is very well made. The pockets are perfect for warming hands and I find myself putting my hands in the pockets just to enjoy the great feel. I ordered a UK 14, US 10. If anything it is a bit too wide on me. I might have liked to try a US 8 but since I live in Canada it is expensive to return items and I am happier with a little extra width as opposed to too little.

By Norwegian Dog Lover from Birmingham, AL on 12/09/2008 Pros: Attractive Design, Comfortable, Good Cut, Lightweight, Versatile, Well Made Best Uses: Daily Use, Travel Describe Yourself: Casual Dresser Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Lightweight, warm and functional. Shell fabric has a super-soft hand. Internal filling is light, pliable, and has a nice loft, yet the vest maintains a trim appearance. Cute corduroy trim at arm openings, and gorgeous burgundy lining. Fitted enough to wear under a jacket or coat, and roomy enough to wear over light sweaters. Extra-comfortable and moves well on the body during activity. I love this vest!
By Doc from Buffalo, NY on 11/23/2008 Pros: Attractive Design, Comfortable, Durable, Good Cut, Lightweight, Versatile Best Uses: Bad Weather, Daily Use, Going Out, Travel Describe Yourself: Casual Dresser Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Loved the first one I bought and so ordered a 2nd in another color. Here in Buffalo the weather in the Fall and Winter ranges from cool and crisp (yes, even in the winter it can be sunny and 45 degrees...it's not always snowing in Buffalo!) to cold and snowy. This vest is perfect for inside wear over a turtleneck; as the layer you throw on to go outside; or as the extra layer to put on under a jacket. It's very versatile.
By Barbour Lover from Texas on 11/21/2008 Pros: Attractive Design, British perfection, Good Cut, Lightweight, soft--feels good, Versatile, Well Made Best Uses: Daily Use, Outdoor Activities, Riding, Travel Describe Yourself: Classic Dresser Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This vest was my sixth Barbour purchase through Sierra Trading Post. Yes, the UK to US size converting is a bit tricky. I bought the UK10 which is a US6. I wanted the vest to fit snug, but not tight. I normally purchase the UK12 which is a US8, but I wanted this vest to wear under my other Barbour jackets. Barbour clearly states the sizes on their garment labeling. Remember, the British are sticklers for perfection: there is little room to fudge in the sizes because they stick to the truth. No made-up, make-you-feel-good fake US sizing allowed at Barbour: you are what you are. Now, this vest is wonderful. Soft, silky quilted nylon outside and inside; lovely corduroy detail at sleeve holes and lower edge; deep pockets; and good quality zipper. There is a little stand-up type collar which keeps your neck warm. Layers beautifully under other Barbour jackets. The overall length means no peekaboo skin at the top of your pants/jeans! How wonderful is that?! I've worn this vest twice now. Each time, I've received some serious once-overs from admirers. For the record, I am 5' 7 1/2" and weigh just under 135lbs. This vest adds to the long, lean look. If it helps, I have slim hips, no bum, and no thighs. Barbour fits me well. I love the vest. The price was great, too. Thank you, Sierra Trading Post.
A perfect garment for my needs! By Perfect Fit... from NYC on 11/17/2008 Pros: Attractive Design, Comfortable, Durable, Good Cut, Lightweight, Versatile Best Uses: Bad Weather, Daily Use, Going Out, Travel Describe Yourself: Casual Dresser Sleeve Length: Feels too long Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Tailoring is attractive, efficient and versatile. It is nicely tapered and trim, it is cut long (protecting my low back/pelvis from the cold), the quilted design retains body heat and is compact (not bulky), and the fabric is ideal (both lightweight and warm). Wear it over a shirt for cool weather, wear it over a sweater for cold weather, or wear it under a coat for freezing weather (the smooth fabric helps the coat slide easily on and off).
The only problem is the confusion with the sizing (UK vs US). A size 12 or size 14 isn’t specific enough - roughly based on the the “bust size” (the bra size). It is a generic size and is quite arbitrary to the manufacturer. And while the length of the garment is given in inches (very important) , the width (or chest measurement) is not given! The chest measurement (in inches) is the most accurate in determining your size. (The definition for the chest measurement is the circumference of the chest on the outside of the garment: lying flat, measured across, under the armholes from side seam to side seam. Double that amount for the exact measurement.) If the chest measurement were given you could determine for yourself exactly how snug or loose a fit you want.
