I would recommend this product By Biggs from Charleston, SC on 03/04/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Lightweight, Waterproof Best Uses: Hiking, Snowboarding/Skiing Describe Yourself: Getting Started Inseam: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I loved these pants. Went out on my first skiing trip and could not have been happier that I got these pants. They kept me dry through all the tumbles I took. Only con was that they are not insulated. I did use a base layer underneath, though, and I never had any issues. Great product.
Looks to Be a Good Waterproof Pant By PacPhotographer from SF Bay Area on 03/01/2009 Pros: Abrasion patches at cuffs, Breathable, Lightweight, Waterproof Cons: No full leg side zippers, Not Enough Pockets or Features Best Uses: Any wet weather use, Backcountry, Cross Country, Hiking Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Gear Usage: Cold Weather Living, rainy weather, Winter Sports Inseam: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to use it in the rain so I cannot comment on its ability to shed water. However, if it is anything like the Cloudveil Zorro jacket that I purchased, it should shed water like water rolling off a duck's back.
I will comment on the fit and features on the pant. The pant seems to fit true to size both in the waist and the inseam. Even though the inseam was a bit long for me, the ability to use the two different snaps at the bottom of the pants cuff allowed me to control the baginess at the cuff, and prevent the any excess fabric from getting in my way.
The pant has a single back pocket that zippers, and it was a welcome addition to the pant design, but it felt a "tad" small, so folks with large-sized wallets, or folks that want to carry more gear than a wallet back there might find it a tight fit.
These pants only have a partial side zipper at the lower leg, not a full-side zip, so they are not as easy to get on/off without taking off one's boots. But for the price, this is to be expected.
Additionally, the top waist band not only comes with elastic, but it also has belt loops so one can thread another belt through them, to keep the pants from sliding down. (I guess this is Cloudveil's, ahem, "belt-and-suspenders" approach to make sure the pants stay up.)
All in all it seems to be a decent, lightweight, waterproof pant.
By take-a-hike from Michigan on 02/18/2009 Pros: Breathable, Lightweight, Waterproof Cons: Not Enough Pockets or Features Best Uses: Backcountry, Cross Country, Hiking Describe Yourself: Competitive Athlete Gear Usage: Cold Weather Living, Winter Sports Inseam: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: used for a snowshoe overnighter winter camp. The pants breathed well and kept me from sweating during exertion. At first touch, these pants are very suspect of being "not up to par" but after use they prove themselves. I'm finding that of many of the newer ultralight wear.
