By Raven from Seattle on 08/02/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Regulates Temperature Well, Wicks Away Moisture Cons: Does not repel bugs much Best Uses: Backpacking, Daily Use, Hiking Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: These socks are very comfortable hikers, but they did not seem to have much effect on mosquitoes. The Alpine Lakes Wilderness can be brutal for bugs in July, and in the 10 minutes that it took me to get out the real bug juice, I had 17 bites. I always seem to be bug bait, and these socks may have had some minor effect on bugs, but not enough to rely on.
Love these- they repel biting bugs By Photographer from Boulder, CO on 07/29/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Good Design, Repels biting bugs Best Uses: Hiking, Wildlife photography Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Sitting for hours on end in the forest while photographing wildlife, these socks have saved me and my ankles from brutal biting bugs. Before I got them, my ankles were a mess. Now life is good. Also, I have found the lighter colors to be better. They don't seem to attract biting flys like darker colors do. For bug protection, these rock. The mid-weight is comfortable even though a bit hot on 90 degree F days. But, better hot than bitten up IMO.
surprisingly comfortable in warm weather By marthaquest from burrville, ct on 07/28/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Regulates Temperature Well, Wicks Away Moisture Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I use these for gardening, work around the yard and most outdoor activities in my mountainous, very buggy area. They're comfortable and I don't really feel them, even in heat and humidity. They also have good cushioning.
By Neil the Day Hiker from Montvale, NJ on 07/15/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Good Design, Regulates Temperature Well, Wicks Away Moisture Best Uses: Backpacking, Hiking, Travel Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I wanted two pairs of Ex Officio socks impregnated with insecticide. This pair is a different style from the first pair I bought (Ex Officio Hiker Socks--Buzz Off). Since I wasn't familiar with Ex Officio socks, I figured I'd spread the wealth. However, these two sock styles are very similar. Both are midweight. Both wick. Both have bug juice. Both are comfortable. I haven't field-tested either pair yet. However, I would not go out on a day hike with either pair without also wearing a pair of sock liners, if for no other reason than for the extra padding and to fill out your hiking boots. The main reason to buy these socks is because they repel insects. Otherwise, their list price seems wildly overinflated.

The weight of these is "just right"--not too thin or too thick--so they felt the most comfortable. Laundered nicely, too.
