We need shirts that are light, breatheable, easy to maintain and care for. These shirts meet these objectives well. Also, the SPF rating allows us to avoid too much sun and the insect shield feature allows us to avoid dousing ourseleves with repellant.
The dual front pocket design (with velcro fasteners) allows us to hold items securely while doing many different activities, especially bending over. We carry iPhones and these pockets are very secure for holding the phones.
Both of us (my wife and I) have multiple shirts. With Sierra Trading Posts prices, we can do this economically.

Great shirt. Excellent quality. By Canon Shooter from Knoxville, TN on 09/22/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Lightweight Best Uses: Hiking, Outdoor Activities, Travel Describe Yourself: Outdoor Professional Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: One of the best shirts on the market. I have several different versions dating back to the mid-1990s. These latest versions with Insect Shield makes them even better. I am a professional nature photographer and novice fly fisherman, and these shirts have performed exceptionally in many different conditions. Very pricey at MSRP, but a great value at Sierra TP.

By Joe from Fresno, CA on 08/12/2009 Pros: Big chest pocket with zip, Breathable Cons: Course material pre wash, Poor Fit, Runs large L fits like XL Best Uses: Camping, Hiking, Outdoor Activities, Yard work Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This is a highly breathable insect repelling shirt. Great addition to any hike or extended outdoor event. Multiple colors available. Runs a size large. I normally wear a large and I had to return for medium.
By luv2fsh from Idaho on 07/21/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Durable, Lightweight, Stylish Best Uses: Outdoor Activities Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sleeve Length: Feels too long Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I am a tall woman and often buy the men's medium shirts to get the extra length both in the body and sleeve. In this case the shirt was a little too large, but I kept it anyway. It is a great color, the bug shield works well and it was very comfortable in all kinds of weather. It would have 5 stars if the fit was right, which is not the fault of the shirt.
