By Outdoors Mom from Eminence, MO on 05/05/2009 Pros: Bright, No batteries needed, Stable, Waterproof Cons: No Beam Adjustment, Requires charging time Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: We bought these for our daughters who love to have their own flashlights when we're camping, but who rarely had working flashlights because they would run the batteries down. We're thrilled with these lights. We've used them on one camping trip so far and we have no complaints.
Works well. Still on first charge. By Critterkeeper from Port Aransas Texas on 04/30/2009 Pros: Bright, Durable, Light weight for travel, No battery needed, Stable Best Uses: Backpacking, Car Camping, Day trip, Hiking Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I use this flashlight at home and when visiting family to safely move around the house at night without putting on big lights. I am a bit of a night owl but don't want to bother anyone else.
By sandy from Ione, CA on 04/28/2009 Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought this flashlight for my car. I don't use a flashlight in the car often and usually when I do I have dead batteries. Now I just leave this flashlight where it can get sunlight once in a while. The light produced is enough for what I want in a flashlight.
basic, simple, good price, and works By backwoods mama from NW Washington on 04/19/2009 Pros: Basic flashlight, Single LED Best Uses: Car Camping, Keep available for emerge Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: When we first moved to a place with limited homemade electricity, we went through huge numbers of batteries just to get to the outhouse at night. Then LED's became available, we each got a nice little headlamp, and the battery waste diminished. Various crank or shake powered lights worked, but never as well as they claimed. Then came the solar-powered do-everything lights with a radio, strobe light, etc. The ones we could afford seemed to fall apart quickly, and were awkward, and did nothing well.
NOW, we have this solar flashlight on the windowsill by the door: basic, tough, standard, simple, smallish, a good price, and works.
It would be a good emergency flashlight in town.
I don't yet know how long-lasting it is. Switches tend to go first on most LED lights. Keep it in a windowsill on the cool side of the house, as overheating never helps electronics. I don't know if it has over-charge protection built in either.
They bring light to darkness By shakerag from Ozark Mountains on 04/15/2009 Pros: Long battery life, Stable Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I do not fault these because they are priced low and the ones I have hold a charge for a long time and bring light to darkeness when called upon--and after initial cost the light works for free!
By Shakerag from Ozark Mountians on 04/01/2009 Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: One day into this winter's ice storm here in the Ozark Mountains and with all electrical power out there was not a battery,of any size, to be had and ice covered roads were near impassable. I had two of these lights and they were used sucessfully to provide light for near three weeks.I left them in the sunlight each day.We are talking about a $13 flashlight that emits light and does not require batteries and they work in bringing light to the dark where needed around the house and they would probably do well for auto emergencies. I just cannot say anything bad about the little lights and would recommend them to any friend or family member---matter of fact several of the aforementioned saw the little lights in real world situations so I did not have to 'suggest' them to anyone.....thanks[...]
Sustainable approach to darkness By Going to China from Los Angeles, Ca on 03/18/2009 Pros: Durable, No battery, Stable Cons: Kinda big, LED dim, No Beam Adjustment Best Uses: Backpacking, Daily life, Travel Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This is a photovoltaic flashlight. Let's break it down from the beginning. An eco-conscious mind thinks not only of them self but of there actions impact on the world and others. When you leave your house do you leave your lights? Do you buy more food that you can eat and then throw it away? The basic question of existence is living in excess or not. I propose that this flash light is for those who don't need to live in excess. The flashlight is dim, yes. But how bright does a flashlight really need to be? Do I really need 5 million candle power? Probably not. And doesn't the environmental con of down cycling batteries completely out way and ephemeral con of brightness? I would say yes, which is why I shop Sierra Trading Post to begin with. This flashlight is does what it needs to do, and nothing more.
no good for alaska winters By Dr J from Cedar Rapids on 03/16/2009 Best Uses: Backpacking, Car Camping, Day trip, Hiking Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I haven't had it that long but I leave it in a south window and it is always very bright when I do use it. I will take it camping but the main idea was to have it in the house for power outages.
By Wilderness Traveler from Mohnton, PA on 03/14/2009 Best Uses: Backpacking, Home Emergency Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Though I have not extensively used this light due to the short period I have owned it the following characteristics have been observed. The light is fairly bright and it is light weight. The on/off switch is hard to use and requires quite a bit of pressure. It seems sturdy and would make a good backup light for extended wilderness trips as it does not require batteries.
