They are soft, but definitely in the granny panty realm. The waist comes up about 4 inches above my navel and the leg openings are very tight. I'm 5'3", 175 lbs and got the XL. Not good. In addition to the poor fit, they were very hot and did not wick moisture at all. I played a 5-game mini soccer tournament in them and was miserable and smelly the whole time.
