Great Little Knife... Bang for the Buck! By Gumby In NC from North Carolina mountains on 10/26/2009 Pros: Comfortable Grip, Compact, Durable, Sharp Blade, Versatile Cons: Need to LocTite screws Best Uses: Backcountry Camping, Day Trips, Survival Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: The Crow combination blade is my second Byrd knife (the other being a Raven combination). This is made by Spyderco and has much the same quality without the price. I wanted something that was sub-3" blade to carry everyday after falling in love with the Raven, which I've had for 2 years+. I carry these Byrds more than an older Spyderco Delcia I have.
The combo blade is the way to go if want versatility (serated portion for rope/ cord/ webbing). The knife holds a razor sharp edge and wears well. Easy to sharpen. As with ANY knife, keep a thin coat of oil in the blade to further protect the blade from corrosion.
Only negative is: they don't LocTite the Torx screws at the factory. My screws loosened quickly without it. Cheap, easy solution: pickup some LocTite at the local hardware store and apply to screws. If you do that, you'll have a bomb-proof tool for a many years.
Excellent knife for the price. By Jason Dean from new york city on 09/30/2009 Pros: Comfortable Grip, Compact, Easy To Use, Good Weight, Versatile Best Uses: Backcountry Camping, Campgrounds, Day Trips, Road Trips Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I use it for everyday tasks. It's a good size and weight. One negative the pocket clip is VERY stiff. It kind of rips up the material on the pocket.
