By Orlie from Seattle, WA on 11/01/2009 Pros: Comfortable/No Break-In, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Day Hiking, Harsh Terrain, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Sizing: Feels half size too small Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I have used these boots this fall in the Cascades in Washington. Probably 20 miles on three or four mountain hikes. They work quite well and are dry. This fall there has been a lot of running water on the trails and I have been dry and secure in the water and on snow.
Excellent all around hiking boot By PellaCPC from Northern Wisconsin on 10/28/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Day Hiking, Harsh Terrain, Long-Distance Hiking, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I am a contractor that was looking for an all around boot. I never know when I leave in the morning what I might encounter during the day - snow, mud, sand, etc. This is an excellent quality boot that will meet my need for a boot I can rely on. I also use it for hunting, recently spending the day walking over varied terrain and through swampy ground. My feet did stay dry, however, my experience with any GoreTex product is that it always works when new, but not for very long. I will be putting some waterproofing on shortly. The boot is a little stiff, but any good hiking boot will be. The inside is not leather however, so hard-core backpackers may want to look elsewhere. All in all, a very nice boot for the cost.
By Tree climber from Malvern, PA on 10/27/2009 Pros: Flexible, Sturdy/Durable Describe Yourself: Arborist Tree climber Sizing: Feels half size too big, Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I am an arborist and need a boot that would be durable enough to foot lock up rope and stand in tight branch crotches and not break down. These boot are not too heavy and don't feel like ski boots. After a solid month or two of climbing in them they are working out in every respect. I would recommend them to any of my peers.
By oly, wa from olympia on 10/07/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Stiff, Sturdy/Durable Best Uses: Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads, Long-Distance Hiking Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Great boots out of the box. I love them. Haven't tried them in wet conditions but they look like they will do just fine.
By Black Coffee from Crested Butte, CO on 09/22/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Comfortable break-in, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Warm, Water Resistant Best Uses: Cold Weather, Day Hiking, Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads, Long-Distance Hiking, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought a full size larger than street shoes, and they fit great. I have low volume narrow feet. Also tried the Asolo FSN 95's (too wide, but comfortable), the Asolo Synchro's (great fit, a bit too wide), and the Vasque Alpine LT's (also wide, and construction seemed like a 2nd in quality). So far I've hiked a couple hours in pouring rain, and stood around in a muddy field at a concert, and they're watertight. They require some break-in for sure, but so far no blisters.
By Choco from Northeast on 09/09/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Great Traction Best Uses: Cold Weather, Day Hiking, Long-Distance Hiking Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels full size too small, Feels too small Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I got these for some upcoming fall hikes/scrambles/climbs, but I wore them this past weekend for a moderate 8 mile hike with modest elevation gain in about 75 degree weather. I thought they may be too warm, but I wanted to see how they performed and broke in. I was very surprised - incredibly comfortable from the start and I felt like I was sprinting up the mountain due to the stiff soles. This is my first pair of "mountaineering" boots and while they are stiff, I like that and feel it's great for rough terrain. I can't wait to use them under harsher conditions.
One recommendation - do not drive in them. Seems silly, but they were actually the most uncomfortable in the car. When I got on the trail it was like a whole new boot.
Highly recommended and you can't beat the price. I may buy another pair. THESE DO RUN SMALL. Order your size accordingly.
play in the mountains wearing these boot By Ski Mt. Eyak from Cordova, Alaska on 07/27/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Warm, Water Resistant Best Uses: Harsh Terrain, Light mountaineering, Long-Distance Hiking, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels full size too small Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I like the boots, they have worked well on rocky steep trails and in very wet conditions. no break in needed. Lacing is ok. The sole is cut tight to the boot and stiff so they should work well for easier rock climbing.
By Denim Dan from Jackson, WY on 07/13/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Warm, Water Resistant Cons: Too Stiff/Not Flexible Best Uses: Cold Weather, Harsh Terrain, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels half size too small Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I used these boots on a semi-intense trip up the Middle Teton, its a glorified level 4 climb/hike. There is a bit of heel lift that will really wear your heels down to blisters on steep grades with no boot pack. This may just be some break in time though. A little tape and gause and I was good to go for the rest of the trip. Other than that, good sturdy boots for mountaineering, not for your average hike though.
