By Suzy from Yukon Terr on 09/30/2009 Pros: Durable, Stable, Water Resistant Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Bought these boots to hike the Chilkoot Trail. With very little break in they were fabulous. Kept my feet dry and warm in fairly extreme conditions. Great traction.
By Schmee from Santa Barbara on 09/07/2009 Pros: Gore tex, Lightweight Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Sizing: Feels half size too small Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: First I was sent the wrong size, US versus UK sizes. The right size fits just as poorly as the wrong. Shoes look much better in picture than in reality. Built entirely too stiff even for heavy duty backpacking shoes.
By Fox in the woods from Liberty, MO on 08/17/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction, Stable, Water Resistant Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels half size too small Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought two pairs, one for myself and one pair for my husband who wears a men's 6 1/2. When we got them, it turned out that the advise to order one half size up was accurate, so we returned the smallest pair and ordered another in a larger size. The boots are beautifully made and very comfortable. We like to do three and four day backpacking treks and we anticipate that these are going to be PERFECT for these kinds of tramps.
By CO hiker from Vail, CO on 07/28/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Great Traction, Stable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Backcountry, Day hikes, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Love them so far, only used them a few times, couple short hike and an overnight backpack. So far so good, good traction seem to be pretty waterproof and good support without too much stiffness. I ordered theses a half size up and ended up haveing to exchange for my reg size. I have a narrower heel and these don't slip at all!!
By JeannieB from Narberth, PA on 07/26/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Great Traction, Stable Best Uses: Backcountry, Day hikes Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought these to replace my old Raichle boots which were a really good fit for me. These too are comfortable and give my feet good support for backpacking, with no break-in necessary. As suggested, I ordered a size smaller and they fit very well. I thought the Goretex might make them hot, but I've been wearing them all summer and they're fine ... I think I could walk on the ceiling with their traction ... !
By mountain hiker from Maui, HI on 07/18/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction, Stable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Backcountry, Day hikes Describe Yourself: Outdoor Professional Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I love this boot. However, I ordered the 1/2 size larger like suggested, and it actually was too big. Its perfect for me otherwise. My last boot was also a Raichle, the REI Spirit III, and it lasted a long time with heavy use. This boot seems about the same fit and comfort but half the price. If you've had Raichle before, stick to your same shoe size.
By mountain gal from montana on 07/16/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Great Traction, Stable Best Uses: Backcountry, Cold weather, Day hikes Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Sizing: Feels half size too small Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I hike fairly strenuous trails, as well as moderate and flat. The boots haven't been tried on strenuous, uphill yet, but feel great and definitely snug my very narrow feet and ankles. They are a bit heavy, but sturdy and stable. Can't wait to really put them to use on a long haul.
Wow !! Easiest break in period By AT/PCT/RN Hiker girl from Bay Area, ca on 07/16/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction, Insoles great, Stable, Water Resistant Cons: Small pebbles got stuck Best Uses: Backcountry, Cold weather, Snow fields, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels half size too small Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I broke these boots in on a four day- mtn pass day hike trip with one small blister on heel. The following week I took a 6 day Backcountry trip in the Sierra's with a 50 plus pound pack with snow fields, lots of water crossings and different terrain. They were great. No blisters, very comfortable. I had bought insole replacements and didn't even use them because their insoles were so comfortable. Went through puddles, mud, and small streams without any leaking. I LOVE these boots and I'm going to buy another pair as back up. I was a true hard Salomon boot girl, but not any more. I am size 9 but size 9.5 fit the best with liner/smartwool sock.
Sigh! Finally, a boot for wide feet! By hill hiker from petaluma, ca on 07/09/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction, Stable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Backcountry, Day hikes, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I have tried on a lot of boots, and none truly fit my wide toes. I think my heel/ arch are normal, but everything I tried was too narrow. These are a perfect width, and also have plenty of up and down space for the toes. I ordered a half size up as instructed and they are perfect for backpacking- plenty of toe room in front. If I was not using them for backpacking I might consider getting a half size smaller. Not only did they fit perfectly, they felt great the minute I put them on. Solid and supportive but with cushion, easy roll on the stride, wow. Thank goodness someone is making boots for wide- footed women- I'll go straight to Raichle next time.
Can't wait to hit the trail with these By Spicy from Chicago on 05/31/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable Best Uses: Backcountry, Day hikes Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Sizing: Feels half size too small Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I am usually a size 8. I followed other reviewers' recommendations and ordered a half-size up (US size 8.5). They fit just right with thicker socks. I plan to use them on muddy/rocky/sometimes snowy backcountry trails.
