By Pack Dog Mom from Southern California on 07/16/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction, Stable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Backcountry, Cold weather, Day hikes Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: With a bad knee and bad ankle, stability and support are key features I look for in a hiking boot. I don't think I've ever hiked in a boot with this much stability. Very impressive. They are waterproof and as another reviewer said "built like a tank". I suspect I'll get many years use out of this pair, and so far mine appear to be completely waterproof. On the downside they are heavier, somewhat stiff, and in warm weather they are hot.
Too stiff for our rocky terrain By Joey from Fredericksburg, VA on 07/07/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Cold weather, Day hikes, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I loved the look and feel of these boots, and they are good for a nice trail, but after wearing them on an overnight with lots of rock to scramble (especially at stream crossings), I found them way to stiff to hug rocks like I'd hope for. Also, the high collar, though great for ankle stability, actually left bruises on my legs on the second day. I even laced them loosely at the top to allow more flexibility, but...
I would recommend them if you are on more steady terrain. They are well constructed and seem like they would last a long time. Bummer I won't find out.
High quality but no gore tex By Halia from Catskills on 05/26/2009 Pros: Durable, Luxurious feel, Stable Cons: Heavy, Not Water Resistant, Strange-looking Best Uses: Backcountry, Cold weather, Day hikes Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I chose to send these back. It was a tough call until I got them on my feet. They are head and shoulders better quality than other boots of this price range. The leather interior is amazing - soft and smooth and feels like expensive slippers or something! They are just dripping with excellent materials. They would make an incredible bargain for the right person, right use.
They were very heavy for me - much heavier than the boots I kept (Asolos). They looked huge on my feet - and wierd. I could have gotten over that, but they really looked odd. And they are not water resistant - not gore tex. And no protective toe bumper... The fit was comfortable, very nice lacing, decent support. I suspect they would last like a tank.
Overall - I would have kept these if I liked them as much on my feet as off.
By Coloradan from Denver, CO on 05/10/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable Best Uses: Backcountry, Cold weather, Day hikes, Snowshoeing Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Great quality boots, just what I'd expect from Raichle. My previous pair lasted 15 years and I ordered these to replace them. Unfortunately, they don't have the 8 in dark blue, the 8 1/2's are too big, and I don't want the light blue, so I'm out of luck -- had to order a different (and more expensive)style. But these are great boots for the money.
By Olympic Mountain Madness from Seattle on 04/20/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction, Stable Describe Yourself: Outdoor Professional Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: My first pair of Raichle boots took six years of abuse before a crack developed in the leather uppers and the soles wore down to nubs. I got these boots for back country expeditions and literally put thousands of miles on them. I took meticulous care of them and they took care of me. I wouldn't be purchasing another pair except that the crack will soon be less than water resistant with little recourse on my part.
By Alaskan Amazon from Wasilla, Alaska on 04/17/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction, Stable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Backcountry, Day hikes, Everyday Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I am an avid Raichle fan, first pair of boots were Raichles back in 1989. These boots fit like a glove. I teach and wear them all day and my feet feel like a million bucks after standing all day. They have also been excellent on some of the early spring hikes I have been on. I love them so much I ordered the other color. Great looking, great support, Vibram soles. What more could you want in a boot?
