Great Value for a Good Rod By FlyFisher from Atlanta, GA on 11/06/2009 Pros: Accurate Casting, Durable, Easy To Transport, Good Tip Action, Sensitive Describe Yourself: Avid Fisher Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This rod (retail [$])is a step up in construction from the Powell Advantage (retail $200. The reel seat, fittings, cork, windings, construction, etc. are all very good quality. This rod weighs 3 oz with a pretty stiff action. It comes with a strong PVC rod case. To make it cast well you need to have a quick casting stroke and be able to utilize the fast tip. If this is you - then this rod can be a cannon! I was easily getting 75 ft with a one-weight overline (7 wt line on 6 wt rod), and I'm a decent, but not great caster. I would recommend this rod for distance, wind resistant fly's, windy conditions, etc. For more delicate presentations, I think I prefer my Powell Advantage, which is not as fast as the TMax. The Powell SSL is slower still.Overall, an excellent STP buy.
