By Western SlopeTrail Runner from Western, CO on 06/09/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction, Stable Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: First off, these are great shoes. I will probably buy another pair. I got them two weeks ago and took them out the day I received them for a four-mile run. No problems. After putting about 30 miles on them I ran a 20 mile race in them. After the race I noticed part of the bottom of the sole under the heel was bulging and affecting my footstrike. No good. I contacted Vasque directly and asked what I should do. They told me to send them in and they'd cover them with their 1-year warranty.
Assuming the same problem doesn't occur again I will continue to buy these shoes. Vasque makes great products.
WOW! Orange and great ride. By Piankeshaw from Seymour, IN on 06/09/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Great Traction, Stable Best Uses: Everyday, Trail runs Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels half size too big Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I really bought this shoe because I was looking for a pair of orange shoes to wear around with shorts. Once I tried them on I decided to run in them. Great feel on the run. Nice traction. Stable ride. Sharp looking shoe.
By ??? from Park City, UT on 06/01/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction, Stable Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Great traction and support. Not as breathable as I would like, but cooler than the gore-tex version.
Good shoe at a nice price By Munchie from San Luis Obispo, CA on 05/27/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Great Traction Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Nices shoe, great fit for my narrow foot
I'll probably buy another pair now to replace these when they wear out. The sole is grippy as advertised.
By J from Emeryville, CA on 05/25/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Great Traction, Stable Cons: Heavy, Sole Wears Out Quickly, Squeaks Best Uses: Backcountry, Day hikes, Everyday Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: My only concern is durability on the shoe. I returned one pair becasue the sole under directly under the heel seemed to be peeling away, or not glued down properly. When I compared the left and the right they both were this way - part of the VST cushioning I think, but the right foot was an obvious flaw - too much was unglued. I returned it and got another pair (STP is so great about that kind of thing -5 stars there). The second pair was the same, again on the right shoe. Probably seconds?
As for on the trail - today they were great! Uphills, down, paved, rough troughs and loose trail gravel - I was on everything and the support and cushion were great. Didn't even notice anything funny from the heel. Very supportive. I would put these as a perfect middle ground for a light hiker and a trail runner. On the heavy end (but supportive) for running, not quite the lateral support of a light hiker. And that is what I was looking for - something I could do my runs in, but would translate to some speed hiking/daypacking. I would get truer trail runners for racing.
So my concern is durability with the sole, but at the price they can't be beat.
Vasque Velocity VST Trail Running Shoes By unltra-runner 242 from Eugene, OR on 05/21/2009 Cons: Clunky, Heavy, Laces create tight spots, No cushioning, No underfoot protection Describe Yourself: Outdoor Professional Sizing: Feels half size too big Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: Ok, to promote an active lifestyle for all to enjoy, I will begin with the pros: the nice colouring and reflective trimmings. Ooook, now that that's over, I feel compelled to give the real scoop on these kicks. I am a competitive ultra-runner, and know what is necessary for proper support, cushioning and protection for my (our) sport. These shoes simply have none. I took them for a relatively techinical 14 miler yesterday and was similarly unimpressed, and toward the end, quite hampered. These would be classified by me as "shoots" or shoes/boots. They are heavy and basically a 2/3 tops shoe. Absolutely no sub-foot protection, heck, even the 1 and minus gravel on the trail was getting through to my feet. It felt as though I was running in a pair of Crocs toward the end, without the cusioning Crocs provide. I feel this would serve better as a light hiker, with no more than say a 20 lb. pack. Perhaps they would work better for someone of smaller stature (I'm 6', 165 lbs.)but I wouldn't place any faith on that. All in all, do not buy these shoes for any kind of distance trail running. I'd say anything more than a 10K. Hope this helps.
Awesome fit like all my other Vasque's By Key from 913 on 05/20/2009 Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Im on my feet all day in a warehouse. I have issues finding boots/shoes that fit properly due to ped surgery, these shoes are awesome, fit, comfort. I am going to purchase another pair to have as a spare.
By S the hiker from CA on 05/18/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Great Traction, Stable Best Uses: Backcountry, Day hikes, Everyday Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Use for on the trail, great traction. I have a knack for spraining ankles rolling them out and these shoes are very stable and prevent me from doing exactly that.
Only one minor negative is they are squeaky with every step on hard or indoor surfaces. Won't be sneaking up on anyone for sure. On the trail, it's not a problem.
By A^2 from Montana on 05/06/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable Uppers, Stable Cons: Heel hisses, Squeaks Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I've been through two pairs of these shoes. The uppers on them are fantastic! I have no doubt they would last for ages.
The bad news is that the cushioning in the heel is not durable. On both pairs of shoes that I have recieved, one or the other heel begins to hiss after about a week. The cushioning inside pulls away from the clear tread and allows air to enter and escape. Happens every time I take a step and is annoying.
Wish these shoes would have worked out! The construction of everything else seems fantastic!
Another very good pair of Vasques By Rob from Edwardsburg, Michigan on 04/21/2009 Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Just got these yesterday and took them out for a 6 miler. The ad states you should order 1/2 size bigger, however, I would recommend that you just order the regular size, as I followed the advice on the page and they seem about 1/2 size too big, although they work well with thicker socks. No surprised here if you like vasque trail shoes, they seem sturdy and are well padded. They offer a nice toe cap as well as stiff midsole for rocks and sticks while on the trail. I really like these trail shoes, however, if you run more on the roads than the trails the outsoles and the stiffer footbed make them feel a little like cleats on the pavement. Overall a great trail shoe.
