Very good quality, but our great dane is By jon from Longmont, CO on 11/11/2009 Cons: Too sm for 1 yr Gt Dane Sizing: Feels full size too small Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This "2XL" is very snug on our Gt Dane, who is just 1 yr old. Do you have 3XL?
This jacket seems to be just perfect By Mtn. Jim from Otto, NC on 11/11/2009 Pros: Easy to Put On, Good Quality Best Uses: Harsh Weather, Outdoors, Small Dogs Describe Yourself: Multiple Dog Owner Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Bought this jacket for our "Chorky". She often backpacks with us, but we could not find a small weather proof jacket. This seems to be the one! Have not yet used in rainy weather, but I expect it to do well.
By Biker Hiker from Yonkers, NY on 11/11/2009 Pros: Easy to Put On, Good Quality Describe Yourself: Multiple Dog Owner Sizing: Feels full size too small Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: We have a 24lb Mini- aussie. We had to exchange the small for the medium, which is still a little snug, possibly because she has quite a lot of fur. We thought the coat would be great for hiking in the rain.
Nicely constructed, easy to put on, good quality.
Use the sizing chart for correct fit
By Jessie'sGirl from Northeastern US on 11/11/2009 Pros: Attractive, Easy to Put On, Fun, Good Quality, Reflective, Washes Well Best Uses: Harsh Weather, Large Dogs, Outdoors, Small Dogs Describe Yourself: Single Dog Owner Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I purchased the coat primarily for rain and snow and appreciate that the dog's underside and front of chest are also protected in this jacket. No more wet dog drowning my couch after a walk in wet weather!
My dog is 26" around the chest and 24" in the back, so this size L coat fits very well, with the coat wrapping around her entire ribcage and covering most of her back. She has a bit of room in the chest, but not so much the coat moves around. This extra room and the zipper on the back will allow me to put her dog seat belt on under the coat for trips in the car (although you could also put the seat belt harness over the coat). I think the reflective piping is also a fantastic addition to the coat! Morning and evening walks take place in the dark half the year here, so anything that makes my black dog more visible is a plus! We may use it just for the reflectivity in good weather.
The coat also has a locker loop on the inside so that you can hang the coat to dry when it's wet.
She's never worn a coat before, but it was still easy to put on. Once it was on she entirely forgot about it and it did not restrict her movement.
Like every Columbia product I have ever owned, this coat is very well made. I love that it is machine washable. Note that as with any breathable material, you want to avoid fabric softener or you will negate the fabric's breathability.
The coat was getting such good reviews that I ordered a few for my best dog-walking clients as their holiday gift. Now that I've received the coat for my own dog, I think I will be ordering a few more!
The coat has some stretch to it, but if you are unsure of size, best to order up one size.
Thrilled with this purchase!
By Mastiff Nanny from Colorado on 11/11/2009 Pros: Cute, Easy to Put On, Fun, Good Quality Best Uses: Outdoors, Small Dogs Describe Yourself: Single Dog Owner Sizing: Feels full size too small Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I have a 130# mastiff who is 40 inches across the chest, but a 2XL was about 6 inches too small- even though it said that it was meant for a 42" chest size. He looked like a sausage when I was done zipping it, and I had too take it off quickly because he looked like he was turning blue from lack of air. It was disappointing, because the jacket is beautiful, well made and perfect in all other ways. Unfortunately they don't have any bigger sizes. The label is plain wrong.
A good jacket for a cold dog By Girl who walks dog from Cambridge, MA on 11/11/2009 Describe Yourself: Veterinarian Sizing: Feels half size too small Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Good quality, a little difficult to put on, easier to get off. There's a little restriction of front leg movement. My dog accepted it and I think it is making his cold outdoor walks more enjoyable.
By Qaisuke and Koa from Boulder, CO on 11/11/2009 Pros: Cute, Easy to Put On, Fun, Good Quality Best Uses: Harsh Weather, Large Dogs, Outdoors, Small Dogs, Travel Describe Yourself: Multiple Dog Owner Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I had to return the Size Medium for a Size Small for my Corgi-Chihuahua mix who is 18.5 inches at the girth, 16-ish pounds and very fit/muscular. I feel like there needs to be a size in between Small and Medium, though I'm not sure that a 20 inch girth-ed coat would have fit better. The small sure seemed TIGHT at first but the fabric does stretch. It does seem to be contoured in all the right places to fit the corgi-build and allow ease of movement. Further, my dog seems to have accepted the jacket and she sure does look athletic and sleek in it and as far as I know the snugness doesn't seem to bother her as she can move well in it.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the hi-tech built in water proof zipper that allows the harness connection to poke out. That's why I bought this jacket-- it's the first jacket that I won't have to alter somehow to compensate for the harness and it is nice not to have to work the harness over the coat which is often awkward. I think the zipper opening for the harness is a KEY selling point for this jacket (and I'm a big harness over collar advocate).
By goducks from North Carolina coast on 11/10/2009 Pros: Easy to Put On, Good Quality Best Uses: Harsh Weather, Outdoors Describe Yourself: Single Dog Owner Sizing: Feels full size too small Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Wow, a great coat for a great price. The build quality is very high, as good as a decent human coat of similar purpose. Just measure carefully around the chest--as mentioned repeatedly below, these coats run small. Our knee-high cattle dog mix (~40 lbs) took a large, but most people would consider that a small-to-medium size dog.
By 0mega from Portland, OR on 11/10/2009 Pros: Cute, Easy to Put On, Good Quality Best Uses: Harsh Weather, Outdoors Describe Yourself: Single Dog Owner Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought the size medium for my 23 lb Westie and it fits snugly.
Great dog coat for active dogs By Love my dogs from Salt Lake City, UT on 11/10/2009 Pros: Easy to Put On, Good Quality Describe Yourself: Multiple Dog Owner Sizing: Feels half size too small Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Once we figured out the right size (normally wears a large but extra large was a perfect fit) I was very happy with this product. The coat is warm and keeps the dog's dry when they are in the weather. I ended up buying two of the jackets because I was so pleased with it.
