There was an extra pad that dug right into the shoulder blades, and the padding was not foam but some crunchy cheap organic stuff.
By Cnaff from Baltimore, MD on 07/27/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Good Padding, Lightweight Best Uses: Day Hikes, Light Loads, Travel, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This pack is nice and comfortable. I especially like the rain fly. However, it is a top loading pack which makes it difficult to get to anything packed on the bottom. A two way zipper down the front of this pack would make it perfect.
By Jason the Silk Road Trader from Huntington, Massachusetts on 06/18/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Easy To Load, Good Padding, Highly Adjustable, Large Capacity, Lightweight, Versatile Best Uses: Extended Hikes, Heavy Loads, Light Loads, Travel, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: The Outbound Solstice is a great all around pack; good for gear intensive day uses like climbing or back-country skiing, weekend long backpacking, and long distance travel. Its greatest virtue is its simplicity, allowing for versatility and maximum storage capacity.
