That really surprised me since that isn't an area I have trouble fitting.

This jacket has it in spades. I got the two tone one and it looks great. Lots of pockets, powder skirt, pit zips and thumb cuffs on sleeves.

I get compliments on it every time I wear it at the ski resorts. It's the perfect combination of function & style - waterproof, longer-than-the-average jacket (great on a wet storm day), great pockets, a hood large enough to cover a helmet (that zips off), and the intelligent thumb loops that I find only in jackets made by snowboard companies. While I am a 6-8 I bought the M to ensure I had space for a fleece.
