I am 5'8" and the regular length is perfect! I had read that they were too long, but a petite would have been much too short. They are relaxed but not bulky around the waist and hips.
The do-it-all pant/shorts By Gypsy from Denver, CO on 06/10/2008 Pros: Breathable, High-Quality Material and Stitching, Packable Best Uses: Backpacking, Camping Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: These pants/shorts should get the real test hiking and touring in the Alps for 5 weeks. The material is great and they shorts don't look totally ridiculous.
By Angela from Suffolk, VA on 05/28/2008 Cons: Bulky, Sits too high on waist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Had to return these because they sat way too high on my waist, almost 2 inches above my belly button. No comfortable at all.
By CarlyHikes from Harrisburg, PA on 05/03/2008 Pros: Breathable, Fitted construction, Handy features, High-Quality Material and Stitching Best Uses: Camping, Hiking Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I was so excited by the price that I ignored the comments suggesting the petite length was not correct. Now I'll be sending these back.
Other than the length, these are perfect convertible pants (a little heavy for backpacking, but otherwise a good outdoor pant.) The construction is fabulous, and there are lots of little features like the micro chamois-lining at the waist, a non-abrasisve belt, a front zip security pocket, a pocket knife snap hook, ankle zips, reinforced knees and rear...
They are the Cadillac of convertible pants, but like a Cadillac, they are just too big. It pains me to return these super pants, but the length just can't be modified. I'm 5' and there is at least 5 extra inches in the leg. I expect petites to be a little long, but not dragging on the floor.
I would recommend the petite length to my taller friends.

By Denny from Center of America on 04/16/2008 Pros: Breathable, High-Quality Material and Stitching Best Uses: Backpacking, Camping Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Runs one size large, by the time I got product and back on line to order one size down, they were sold out. Would have been happy with one size smaller.

By Rocks and Trees from Lawrence, Kansas on 03/14/2008 Pros: High-Quality Material and Stitching, Packable, Sturdy durable fabric Best Uses: Backpacking, Camping, Cold Weather, Hiking Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: These are great pants. Fabric is thicker than my other convertible pants which is great for spring and fall weather. That makes them slightly heavier for backpacking, but they are worth it. Legs are wide and easily accomodate long underwear. These pants are very long. I am 5'8" and tried on a friend's pair of petite pants which fit me better length-wise than the regulars did. The pants do have a nice draw cord at the ankles which helps deal with the extra length. I will definitely buy these again, but will probably order the petite length.
By betsy6 from VA on 02/29/2008 Pros: Breathable, High-Quality Material and Stitching, Lightweight, Packable, Stylish Best Uses: Backpacking, Camping, Casual Wear, Hiking Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This is my second pair of Mountain Hardware brand pants. The other pair fit a little tighter and I was a little reluctant to order the same size but, these are a more relaxed fit and are a perfect fit. You can't beat the quality of these pants. I'm thinking of buying another pair in another color before they all get snatched up!
