Ths fabric has a high gloss sheen on the exterior rather than the usual matt finish found on most softshell jackets. It may be the waterproofing chemical on it. Will find out after the first wash.
By TXSki from Houston, TX on 09/20/2009 Pros: Breathable, Durable, Lightweight, Stylish, Warm, Wind Resistant Best Uses: Casual Wear, Downhill, Hiking Describe Yourself: Advanced Chest Size: Feels true to size Gear Usage: Cold Weather Living, Winter Sports Sleeve Length: Feels too long Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Super nice non-technical soft shell with lightweight fleece lining. The embossed logo on the chest and front of hood is barely noticeable. Sleeve length runs long compared to the rest of the cut, which is very fitted, contoured, and close to the body. If you are thinking about a 200 weight fleece layer underneath, go one size larger, but then the sleeves might be too long. Seems to work best with a light fleece layer underneath, or just as a fall/spring cool weather shell. I bought it for traveling, so layering not the big an issue for me. Really sharp jacket if you like a slim, not boxy, cut.
By Musicnut from Houston TX on 09/17/2009 Pros: Breathable, Durable, Lightweight, Stylish, Warm, Wind Resistant Best Uses: Casual Wear, Hiking Describe Yourself: Advanced Chest Size: Feels true to size Gear Usage: Cold Weather Living, Winter Sports Sleeve Length: Feels too long Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Really sharp versatile soft shell. Stretchy but be advised it is a close to the body, athletic fit as advertised. Sleeves are long in proportion to the chest size. The embossed logo is very understated, which is nice. If you want to do anything other than light layering underneath you will need to go a size larger, but then sleeve length could be an issue. So let the jacket do what it does, with less than 200 weight fleece underneath, and you'll be happy. Really sharp, versatile addition to the closet for traveling, hiking, around town, or even skiing on days when it's not super cold.
