Comments:
This sharpener has a coarse side (around 325 grit, IIRC) and fine side (around 750 grit, IIRC). These abrasive levels are both pretty coarse but acceptable for general tool and utility blade sharpening. However, I would not use even the fine grit side on a really nice filet knife, skinning knife or the like. I would prefer this unit with abrasive levels around 500 and 1200---maybe even 750 and 1500.
This sharpener is solid and sturdy. However, I personally feel it is too heavy to carry backpacking. I would reserve it for car camping, horsepacking, river rafting, etc. The length of the sharpener is adequate but if you aren't carrying your sharpener in your backpack, I would want a longer unit even if it were a bit heavier.
