By JWR from NY on 08/26/2009 Pros: Compact, Lightweight, versatile Best Uses: Car Camping, Day trip, Emergency Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I haven't had a chance to do an extended evaluation, but after a brief test of all features it does what it says it will do. Covers a lot of bases in a nicely designed, compact, self contained unit.
By collee baby from Oakland, CA on 08/18/2009 Pros: Compact, Lightweight, Portable Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought this radio for my wife to use in the garden. The solar power operates just fine. That makes it easy for her to move it around to where ever she's working outside. She can also hook it up to her I-Pod Touch to listen to her own music.
The only negative is that the sound quality is just about what you'd expect from a tiny speaker--rather poor.
In short, it's handy and useful if you're not expecting high fidelity sound.
Neat but not for weather! By Joyce the picker from North Carolina on 08/15/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Compact, Lightweight, Tough Best Uses: Car Camping, Day trip, Mountaineering Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Comfort Driven Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Both solar & crank power work well, the am, fm, & mp3 connection are great. We couldn't pick up a weather station at our locations (2). Easy to carry and guilt free for us "greenies."
By surfstar from santa barbara, ca on 08/05/2009 Pros: Compact, Lightweight, Tough Best Uses: Backpacking, Car Camping Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Small and compact for what it does. After a bit of cranking, it puts out some decent volume - but too much and it gets distorted, although still plenty loud for any campsite. I don't think it will charge an mp3 player unless you really have some time to kill and want to work on your forearm strength.
A good deal for portable speaker/AM/FM/WB radio that needs no batteries.

By Trail Junkie from Twin Cities, MN on 07/31/2009 Pros: Compact, Lightweight, Tough Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Great little unit.
Brought it on a backpacking trip and used as mp3 player speaker.
It ain't for audiophiles, but works as advertised.
I was surprised at the decent volume and how long it would go on a minute's worth of hand cranks.
Didn't need to crank when it was sunny.
By Hiker chick from Cambridge, MA on 07/09/2009 Pros: Compact, Lightweight Best Uses: Backpacking, Car Camping, Day trip Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: It is a very cute, compact little cube, and we like it. I would almost buy a 2nd one for city use... only comment is that it would be nice to have a plug-in recharge option, other than solar (which takes like 35 hrs of full sun) or cranking. These options seem more than adequate for normal use given the play times stated in the manual, but we haven't tried it for that long yet. Also, wish there were water-plug covers for the hookups, and there is an included mono-adapter required for your ipod hookup. Wished these were more built-in, since you can't be without them if you want to use the ipod.
