By Bugbait from CA on 08/16/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, High-Quality Material and Stitching, Lightweight, Packable Best Uses: Backpacking, Camping, Hiking Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I love these pants, so I got a pair for my husband. His legs are rather short and these pants were so long that in order to hem them for him, we would have been trying to hem the mesh which wouldn't work well, so we had to return them. If you have very short legs, they may not work for you.
By vtg from So. IL on 08/09/2009 Pros: Breathable, Lightweight, Packable Cons: Poor Fit, Poor Material or Construction Describe Yourself: Outdoor Professional Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: These pants offered everything I was looking for, so I ordered several pairs. Unfortunately, the fit was a bit awkward in that there is no real room to allow for movement. When I leaned over to chainsaw a tree, the stitching began to unravel in the seat & the pants felt very tight & uncomfortable. And while the light weight & breathability of the pants seemed like a good idea in this August heat, poison ivy was able to infiltrate the pants & now my legs are covered by it. On the other hand, for more casual use, perhaps in an area where no poison ivy exists, I think these pants could be good.

By arborrider from Bayview Township on 07/15/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, High-Quality Material and Stitching, Insect Shield, Lightweight, Packable Cons: MSRP is too expensive Best Uses: Backpacking, Camping, Casual Wear, Hiking, Travel Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: 2nd pair purchased as back up to original pants.
Only negatives were not big issues. I sew some of my own backpacking gear so alteration of the too long inseam was a non issue. The factory hem stitching was 2nd rate. Not a problem with any of the other stitches. Same situation with the original pair of pants.
Insect Shield works as advertised. The mesh venting allows for ventilation. Real noticeable when moving or a slight breeze kicks in. Material is relatively light weight and fast drying when dampened from sweat or rain.
If a lighter color at the STP prices ever becomes available I would definitely purchase a 3rd pair. The lighter color would be real nice in hot, sunny, buggy conditions. Comfort, UV protection & bug protection.
