By BrianOfAtlanta from Atlanta, GA on 07/30/2009 Pros: Compact, Lightweight Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Comfort Driven Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Lighter both in the context of weight and light output. I bought this as an alternative to my Coleman powerhouse gas lantern which I don't dare get anywhere near my tent. I haven't used it extensively, but the illumination is more than enough for a tent or picnic table and the hand crank seems solid. A very nice lantern I expect to be using for years.
Excellent piece of equipment By Buckeye 1 from Columbus, Ohio on 07/22/2009 Pros: Compact, Lightweight, Tough Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Comfort Driven Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I just received the product and have tested it only in the home and backyard so far. It passed both with flying colors.
For it's compact size and multi purpose abilities this is the best value for dollar I have come across.

By new empty nester from Mahomet IL on 07/18/2009 Pros: Bright light, Lightweight, Solidly built Best Uses: Backpacking, Car Camping Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I purchased this lantern for my son who is going away to college in a far-away state and has intentions to spend time on the week-ends exploring his new environment and camping/hiking. This lantern is crank-powered so he will not have to worry about batteries or fuel. The built-in phone charger will cover him if he needs to make emergency calls...since he usually forgets to charge his phone in advance. I think this will work perfectly for him.
By hiker from Belfast Maine on 07/14/2009 Pros: Bright, Lightweight, Works great Best Uses: Car Camping, Day trip Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I took this to Baxter State Park in Maine right out of the box where there is no electricity. This lantern performed beautifully. It does just what it says it does and is very bright. It is biggish, but very lightweight. No batteries, no waste, 0 carbon emissions (yea!) and invaluable in a pinch when you need a charged cellphone out in the wilderness (that is if you are high enough up so it works!) You need a carcharger for your cell phone.

Good Lantern for fire free camping By Troutbum from Denver, CO on 06/22/2009 Pros: Compact, Lightweight, Tough Best Uses: Backpacking, Car Camping Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Comfort Driven Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I used this lantern for a 3 day trip into the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. There is a no-fire restriction and so we used this lantern for light in the evenings. The lantern is lightweight and bright enough for most uses outside of the tent. Inside the tent it is the perfect amount of light.
